Fireglo or Walnut Ric 4003, and why?

I'm not a maple fingerboard guy, wish they's make them with a bubinga board too. One advantage of the walnut models is the oil finish, easily repaired and not so "sticky" on the back of the neck.

I voted Fireglo. With that dark fretboard it just looks so classic.

Both are good looking. The only reason i said walnut is because of the neck. It is really smooth. I have played both. Like an earlier poster said, i would probably get the S personally, plus it is cheaper.

I voted Fireglo. I don't like the white inlays on the 4003 walnut maple board. If I went walnut, I'd go with the 4003s.

I have a 4003W, and it's great. But I still want a 4003 Fireglo, just for the rosewood. Keep the groove.

The recent black series were really amazing. But... No 5 string version.... stumped.

The Walnut sounded a little different than a typical Ric to me. Maybe the maple fretboard? not sure, but it definitely had a slightly brighter punch to my ears.

My 4003W sounds quite a bit different than my old Jetglo did. The tone is extremely growly for even a Rick (it's scary awesome with a pick), and I love it. It's also quite light at 8.6 pounds.

I asked and got this reply direct from Ric: "Unfortunately we do not take any custom orders, I apologize for not being able to assist you with this any further."
Which I think amounts to a total shutdown.
I did push back a bit and ask if "any" meant "any" or if that might be mitigated by wads of cash...

The 4003W does NOT sound like the other rick 4003s. If you are going for the classic tone, please get the fireglow. I really like the W, but you need to understand that it sounds different. Try to play one first if you can find one locally.

Almost impossible to do here in North Queensland (@RedVee not Far NQ, that's them flaky tourist-wallahs from Cairns!).
Would you elaborate a touch on what you found to be different?

I have to admit, though I'm not a fan of natural finishes on basses or guitars, a Ric can make anything look good. So you're safe either way.

But Fireglo is one of the more unique finishes in all of bass-dom and guitar-dom. Unique finish + unique body style = pretty gosh darn unique.

All other things being equal, of course.
