Steinberger L2, black. In 1985, my freshman year in high-school. It was a school-owned instrument played in marching band, pep band, and jazz band. I wasn't a bassist then, and didn't really have any interest... I was too busy being saxy.
The band director was in his first year, and he was interested in making a huge wave in a sea of hum-drum small-town school marching bands. So, he decided to march a bass guitar and a synthesizer (Korg Poly-800). He had a keyboard holder and an amp cart custom-welded. One band member had to be dedicated to pushing the amp cart, as it was big and heavy... it was either a 215 or an 810. Ah if we only had class D/neo technology back then...
Having an amp on-hand for performances also allowed us mic instruments that normally did not play solos on the field. I remember playing the sax solo on-field for our performance of Steve Winwood's "Roll with It". Ah the memories...
