First Bowled Back?

Does anybody know who first used the bowled backs in bass design? I was reading in the Spector club about all the bowled backs, but I know Warwicks and others also do this.

I've never heard it called a "bowled back" before, but Ned Steinberger created the Spector NS bass design, including the arched body, and Warwick borrowed the feature from Spector.

Scooped is the term I've always heard and my earliest memory of one goes back to a Spector in 1985. It seemed pretty novel at the time but I wouldn't be surprised to find out the design is much older.

Spector has been doing it since the late 70's, Ned designed it.

Cool. I thought the NS was the first, but I saw Warwick's with them and I thought it might be a common type of body. I do love my Spector's though.

Warwick took it from Spector. They even licensed the design initially.
