First Build - And May My Mistakes Be Minimal

Drilled tuner holes tonight. Brad points for the win. :) easy to drill to where point goes through then finish from other side for no tearout.

Perfect fit for tuners, but the tuners are all oriented the same. Doh!

I also need a shorter top bearing flush trim bit so I can finish control cavity prior to final glue up.

Hipshot HB6Y-3/8 Bass Tuning Machine Set Gold

I sent Musician's Friend an email explaining the situation. Hopefully they have a couple of the reverse orientation tuners they can swap out with me. I do not have any plans to design a headstock for inline tuners, but may have to if I can't get this worked out. That, or just have goofy offset tuners on my current build. :D

If that doesn't work, you might send a messaged to hipshot to ask if they're reversible.

I need to thickness down the body wings 1/16" to give a bit more height to the fretboard. I used a safe-t-planer chucked in the drill press for that. Now the upper wing is glued and clamped.

Note to self: do a better job at band sawing the body next time so I have an accurate caul for better clamping.

Carl - you rock! In the meantime, I figure I should grab some pots for tone and volume. I am assuming 6mm shaft.

What I do not know is how to wire the pickup and your fabulous preamp to regular pots. 250k, 500k? Your diagrams are awesome but are for the fabrege egg pots :) I'm such a newb!

Thank you!! That kind of praise is certainly motivating and encouraging to a rookie such as me. :)

And hotdamn, I have a bass-like shape thing now after four months of work.

There is still a ton of work to do, but I honestly never expected to get this far. I just came here looking for ideas on how to fix a Ric paint chip... Now I frequent lumber shops like a kid trying to find the latest Star Wars toys...
