First build for someone else! Jazz bass!

OK, so, call me crazy but I really want to put that P-split-pickup this close to the bridge;

It might be way too close, but I was just thinking about telecasters, with the pickup actually pretty much built into the bridge, and trying to keep the bass as clean and wood-looking as possible.

any thoughts?

Oh, I should mention, everything is layed out where it should be, not just tossed on - including the control plate.

it's pretty busy-looking because of the wires sticking out, but I think it'd be alright.

I don't know about the pickup positioning or how well it would work or whatever, but I gotta add this...

With wood that nice (that's what she said...) I think it would be a shame to put a control plate on it. I'd do it rear routed so as much wood as possible would show and not be covered up.

Magnets? After I posted a link to a $5 piezo? That everyone here agrees you should use?

I have no idea where the pups should go by the way (though you could could probably get away with just one under the bridge and minimal wiring :)). Speaking of which, are you sure you've got the bridge placed properly?

I think most of us would rather see piezo, but it's his, and the future owner's decision.

It's easy to take posts literally. I think the piezo is a good idea, but sometimes piezo pickups make acoustic guitars sound thin when they're plugged in. It would have to be a pretty good pickup, or maybe a magnet for each string to position each one just so. Have you all used piezos in a build before? PM me for any tips.

The bass looks really good so far, Dave. Is that J-bass pickup made for the bridge position? If it is, I think you could probably put it 1/2 inch or so from the bridge and it would probably look like a regular P-bass at first glance.
