First Build, Performer Copy

They do connect - the posted picture is a screenshot of a .25 point line, so it might look disconnected. Here it is bigger:

Yes, Illustrator allows me to easily adjust the distance between the letters. Is this better?

Also, I very much dislike gold. Do you think silver might work as a fill? Or maybe gray, which I can add directly in Illustrator.

Silver works just as well. One thing you have to do is once you print it you have to dust it with a light coat of lacquer. Then let it dry completely and then fill it in.

With out the lacquer the water will lift the ink. But if you fill it in first the lacquer will lift the paint pen. The water wont touch an oil based paint pen.

I received the decal paper today in the mail. It's for a laser printer - the only one I have. It's a black and white printer - no color, so I can only print out grey and black.

I think I'll first try it with the grey fill, and perhaps one with no fill, and see how it looks. I'll stop by staples tomorrow and look for a silver sharpie, and see how that looks. Gray with a white fill sounds pretty interesting as well. I'll look for a white sharpie as well.

I was unable to spray the bass today as the weather was uncooperative - cold, humid, windy, with light showers. If you can believe it, there's a freeze warning tonight in Phoenix, so I brought the bass inside, and put it in the spare bedroom. Shut the door tight, as it's still very much gassing out.

Tomorrow, it's suppose to be in the upper 50's, but with low humidity, and clear. I'll try to put on the decal and a few more coats of lacquer. As usual, I'll post progress pictures.

Thanks again everyone, you all are being very helpful and supportive :)

Let me know how the laser printer stuff works. My laser printer has a much better black than my inkjet printer. I can get the inkjet stuff local at hobby lobby in the model car section, which is why I use it.

Well, so far, so good.

My only concern is that the instructions state: "If you wish to protect your decorated item from scratches, moisture, or fading, then spray your dried decorated surface with acrylic varnish such as Krylon Crystal Clear finishing spray."

Emphasis is mine. I'm hoping the nitro won't melt it or something. Since it is clear today, with low humidity, but just below 60 degrees, I'll spray a few more coats on today, and I guess we'll find out.

Oh, and I decided to go with the wireframe - no fill. It just looked better to me.

Do you have a link to the paper you bought?

$22.99 for 25 sheets, plus shipping. After spraying today, it seems the lacquer did no damage, though a small piece of the "R" went missing.

I may try to complete the line with a black marker, or just leave it as is. Aren't all the cool kids doing "relic" refinishes these days?

I would let it dry and sand the decal off and apply a new one. It shouldn't bet to big of a set back, and its the only way to fix it correctly.

No relic on this bass for me, please. You are too nice of a job :)(I do realize you were joking). First post on this thread but I have been following it for awhile(and read the thread that inspired you). Keep up the good work!

Thanks :)

I'm going to try to cut off a similar piece from another decal first, and attempt to fit it over the existing one. If that fails, then your suggestion is plan b.

Also, I recently purchased a 2nd cabinet for my Ampeg Micro VR. I got it off ebay for $250.00, including shipping, which saved me about $75.00 had I bought it new locally. I just received shipment last night. I really wish Ampeg had included a cable. I have to go to the local Guitar Center to pick one up so I can hear the darn thing.
