Double Bass First came the UpShot, then DoubleShot - now Coda Evolution

I'm also wondering: is there a crossover in the Coda Evolution? Or are both speakers running full range?

I imagine that a crossover would have both positive an negative consequences: positive, that the 10" would be able to do just the low tones. But maybe a negative --- that the higher freq's wouldn't be projected up at you while you play. ?

Pretty confident that the cab at least has a HPF on the 5" midrange. Depending on the response of the 10" driver, it may not be necessary to run an LPF, and I suspect one is not used. But it's just a guess.

From the Gollihur sight.

10-inch broad frequency range custom up-firing driver

This suggest the 10" is run full range. But again, it's only a guess.

I'm interested to know what mic you are using, and what about its use is not as expected. Using the supplied XLR/TRS plug balanced adapter, the input should switch to mic impedance and provide a full 48v phantom.

Something is clearly vibrating; possibly the cabinet itself on the floor. Since it stops when you press down on the cabinet, and it stops when the cabinet is in the air, it seems the most likely culprit. It's a tiny, lightweight cabinet with LOTS of wattage being pumped through it; it's probably a mechanical vibration on the floor as the box is vibrating with high vibrational energy. Try it on a non-resonant floor (like cement or a rubber pad) and see if it stops.

Dear Mark, thanks for help but it doesn't stopped at all. The problem occurs at bass guitar, especially from the 12th fret and up. Maybe it could be the speaker enclosure but I will not stand on it while I play the concert :bassist:
I noticed that buzz also occurs when I play with low volume, just first I have to play loud and after this buzz is present with just a little amount of volume. Weird... I'll send the speaker back for service to Thomann. You asked about the mics. I use Remic studio and live mics. Thru Grace Design and Headway the are silent but not thru AI SL2.

Anybody here own the new Coda yet? I'd really like to hear more about how it compares to the Upshot, beyond the product description. "Warmth" and "forward" sound are a little vague for me :)

Both the new Coda and Upshot are rated to go down to 40Hz on their specs page. The Coda has a larger volume, so I'd think it'd have a bigger deep bass response.

It's seems like the Coda Evolution would be perfect if playing bass and singing - having that small forward-facing speaker would help out vocals a lot. And then paired with a 2-channel AI amp...
Maybe, but I have the DoubleShot and when you change the position of the speaker like it is in Coda Evolution - it is more boomy without the definition. AI is typically boomy so for me it isn't perfect at all. Usually for live performances you don't need a lot of lows due to the place you are play.

Just send it back to AI directly, not via Thomann. I have done the same. I experienced a problem of exagerated hiss on my Clarus SL2 when activating the phantom power on my Remic D540 mic. AI serviced it perfectly and it has been dead silent ever since, no hiss whatever. Just my 2 cts, you won't regret it.

Hello AI fans! I have the UpShot, DoubleShot and Clarus SL2 600-4Ohm head. From the beginning I have had problems with this gear. First, SL2 head does not work correctly with mic and phantom power. After service it is better but it is not that good as it should - sorry...I'm not use it with mic and I think it is not good head for a mic. Of course bigger head version with XLR yes but this small amp-no. The worst for me is the DoubleShot. Everything is almost fine, I like the weight, bottom end, midrange are fine, a little lack of hights, but the speaker buzzes a lot. Especially at the bass guitar and in the upper register. The sound is so bad that I thought the speakers are blowed but they are not. I opened the speaker enclosure, everything look ok, also I removed all glued commercials of AcousticImage from the grills. I change the head for another and the problem with buzz is the same, only speaker have better and nicer sound to my ears. When I hang the speaker in the air it is ok, but on the floor it is buzzing. Also when I put pressure at the enclosure it is ok, but in normal use the problem is present. The sound is something like distortion but only at higher notes. I've changed of course the placement of the speaker, the room but no effect. Maybe you could have any idea what's the problem? I've contacted with Rick and with service but the support is poor. I guess I would have to send back the speaker for a service.
It’s been a few years wondering if you ever worked it out? I am borrowing the Clarus with this cabinet .One-8 A.I. Combo - Raezer's Edge
I’d really like to try out some of those double shots… Whatever combos but I need to play it first. Really bums me that nobody carries them in stock. Return policy is too short. Can’t tell in a week you need a month at least.
Was there a problem at all with your head? The one that I was borrowing had some issues with the quarter inch outs to the PA system even with direct boxes.

Speaking with Rick Jones at several recent ISB conventions, he mentioned that Acoustic Image builds their amps and cabinets a few at a time
in small batches, when the receive an order for one. So, if you find one at your local music store they probably ordered it for the store or most likely
it was a special order for one of their customers. Gollihur music has them and used to give a trial period for you to try before you buy. I’m not sure
that they are able to do that now with the current supply chain issues. just thought you might like to have a little background on AI’s setup. Just my take.

I checked, they offer a 14 Day trial.
14 days really isn’t enough time. I don’t know if that includes shipping that could easily turn into seven ? . It doesn’t matter it’s just not enough time… If I can find a used one guitar center is selling then I can get the 30 day trial, might try to negotiate a 30 day trial with Reazer . i’m at least familiar with their product.

Well
I agree with you that it’s a short turnaround. When I bought my Traynor SB-106 from Gollihur ,Mark was great about
giving me a few extra days if I needed them. Sounds like you have it figured out. Guitar Center virtually destroyed several of
our best local specialty music stores. So I’m not a fan. Just my take. Reazer’s Edge went through some very tough times.

The Gollihur folks are super nice people to work with and they are most likely watching this thread. I'm pretty sure it is just a few words on the website for the 14 day thing; if you called them up they would likely be happy to give you a few more days if needed. They are a small business who care about customers, not a corporate giant who does not give a $#!@.... 'Never had a bad experience with them....

Hi guys - just caught up. Yes, our 14-day trial is from when you RECEIVE it, not from when you ORDER it - so you have 2 full weeks to play with your new gear, even gig with it (as long as you're careful) to get a real feel for it. Our full policy is documented under the "14 Day Trial" tab on each product page where the trial is offered. I'm happy to answer any questions, too. Keeping details minimal here, as I felt the question was asked, so an answer was appropriate, but I don't want to step afoul of the commercial policy.

Thank you Mark…
The Clarus has just the single balanced output for both channels. I don’t understand this. It gives no control to the sound man or the board. The back quarter inch outputs are a little confusing. Haven’t been able to find a manual but we did have bad signal/distortion issues with those quarter inch Outs, even with direct boxes. Any suggestions on the best way to send two signals to the board? I do think with the master off you can adjust the 2 channels to the board, and then any adjustment with the master will not affect the signal going to the board/PA > not sure if this works with that balanced output?

Also with the Raezers Edge cab that I tried, the vocal was very nice . Haven’t heard anything about the double shot? Maybe a different cab is recommended?

The balanced output is indeed a mixed output only. As configured from the factory, the 1/4 output marked "mono" is also a combined output, but can be reconfigured per pages 15 and 17 of the manual to split the channels to the pair of outputs. However, it does have the added caveat that Ch2 will no longer be sent to the internal power amp:

Could one use "effects send" as a split output? Just guessing here...
Worth a try.
Connecting any plug to one of the effects loop connector can disable the passthrough to the power amp (because the power amp should the. Get its signal from the effect return), but this typically happens when connecting a plug to the effect return, so often the effect send could be used as an output of the preamp.
If there is a blending control for direct vs. effect there is no need to disable the passthrough since the control can do that.
