Boom, it’s finally a done bass!

I’ve got the action down low for a pretty impressive bark and growl. I’m still working on the truss rod cover (needs a little thinning).

I’d like to post a video if time permits.

I learned a lot this year, and looking forward to working on building more!

I like the look of the finish. I lost track of your finishing process after you had the epoxy issues, and sanded/scraped that off. How did you end up finishing the bass?

I like the look of the finish. I lost track of your finishing process after you had the epoxy issues, and sanded/scraped that off. How did you end up finishing the bass?

A bunch of what I ended up doing was detailed a bit over on the epic water based finishing thread.

I started off with a sealer of West Systems epoxy, then over about a month or two layered on 25 coats of Minwax Waterbased Oil modified Poly. It has a natural darker amber tint. I also went thru having a Harbor Freight turbine kit (the grey one), and didn’t like it so I bought a small compressor and a Husky HVLP gun, and gained the control I felt better with. I experimented with a number of sanding/buffing techniques but ended up wet sanding up thru the many micro meshes.

The neck was finished with 1 rattle can - 10 coats of Varathane ultimate gloss poly water based.

I’ll definitely try this in a regular can in my spray gun next time. There’s also the ProFinisher that is on my list to try.

I really liked the way the sculpted area at the neck attachment was looking way back when, and the shot of it here is a bit too close in to give the full effect on the finished instrument.
