First album I ever got was Police - Synchronicity. But, I think a friend gave that to me. I'm pretty sure the first album I ever bought for myself was Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair.

My first purchase with my own money was Guns N Roses, Use Your Illusion I. But I was handed down and given plenty of great albums (cassettes) before that one.

Weird Al - Running with Scissors. Followed by Off the Deep End. Then I got an MC Hammer tape... I got over it pretty quick. Then my tastes matured.

First metal album: Metallica - ...And Justice for All (still my favorite Metallica record despite lack of bass)
First classic prog rock album: Chicago - Best of Chicago
First actual prog rock album: YES - Close to the Edge
First neo-Prog rock album: Spock's Beard - The Kindness of Strangers
First Radiohead album: OK Computer
