First P bass

My first was a 2015 American Vintage 60’s Precision.

I had a couple more after that, now I have a FCS 62 P bass that I got in 2020.

My first Fender Precision was an early 60's Sunburst and rosewood FB with covers in a leather gig bag, purchased from Jimmy's music store on 48th St, NYC. Bought 1968, stolen from my car during a snow storm two years later, never to be seen again.

My first bass was a P bass. It was a parts-build copy that was assembled by a local shop for Dale Peters from the James Gang. Fender Lace Sensor pickup, ash body in sienna burst, maple J width neck and ebony board. Bought it directly from Dale when I was 14.

Mine was a 2018 Fender FSR Traditional MIJ 60s Precision Bass Midnight purchased brand new From Lidgett's Music in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It is my number one and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

I bought a brand new translucent wine rw P bass in 1977. Looked incredible, all warm and lush...but did it play well? Ive no idea...I was way too young and inexperienced to know..still, wish I had it now...very pretty bass.
Anyway fast forward to today and umpteen different basses, I now play a CV 70's P bass and I will never need another P bass.

I've owned basses from Alembic to Zon over the decades. The one and only P was a '97 California Special I got in the mid '00s. It didn't last too long with me as the G string was thin sounding, no matter what I changed out to try and improve it (the only things that weren't swapped out were the neck, body, pickguard, and wiring harness!).

I'm curious to see what everyone's first P bass was.

When I first started playing I acquired a 5 string Squier VM P bass and almost sold it immediately because it wasn't the tone for me, at the time anyways.

About a month or so ago I picked up a CV 60's P, threw some flats on it, changed out the tone pot and jack and it's been my go to since.

Lets hear what your first P bass was and how it went for you.

Mine was built to order in 1978 and I spent all my money on it. Natural Ash, Maple 1-5/8 inch "B" neck, Maple fingerboard. Still play it regularly when it fits the material. Using Sadowski flats on it, sounds very classic Fender. Think it was a good investment...

My 1st and only Precision is a '73 that I bought new and still own. Never found a better bass although I do own 6 others.

My first was a used 64ish pawn shop beater. I really don't know the year since my bass teacher found it for me and it cost me a whopping $75.

Also back then when you could buy fenders out of pawn shops at relatively great prices nobody really cared what year they were they were a Fender. Maybe some of the older guys cared about stuff like that but GarageBand kids... getting a Fender that's all that mattered.
I was playing a Vox Cougar and before that I was playing a Kalamazoo neck pickup, CHIP BOARD FSO.
