First post , am I beating a dead horse ?

I have been lurking for sometime.
I have read until my brain swims .
I am thinking about a tube amp to run a 2 x 10 cabinet and a single 15 cabinet.
I am looking for an overdriven sound along the style/sound that Lemmy had .
I am on a budget , I dont gig .
I just mess around in the basement .
I found some deals on B52 AT 100 amps .
Has anyone ran one of these amps with a bass .

Looks crazy enough to work for Lemmytone. Don't know what kind of low end it'll put out, and I know nothing about B-52 amps, but I'd have to think it might be cool. Saw a cheaper one, though...better condition, too:

My first thought was along this same line. Part of that sound is the overdriven output stage; it's gonna get kinda loud in that basement if you attempt to duplicate that part of the sound. I presume the you will need to attempt to emulate that effect by overdriving an earlier gain stage in some way.

And 'beating a dead horse' refers to continuing an argument that has already been settled; is that what you meant? Or is 'going down the garden path' a more appropriate idiom?

It should work fine. Just get your impedance right. Check the specs on the rear of the cabs and match the amp via its impedance selector to the correct ohms. Hopefully both speakers are wired the same to keep it simple by using both outputs in parallel.

I just meant, the continual discussion of amps in general . Everyone has an opinion .

Off brand tube amp from a pawnshop? What could go wrong? If you don't mind no warranty and potentially putting piles of money into it, try yer luck! I bet it could be decent start to a Lemmy rig-o-doom...

Ill just come right out and say it. The AT100 was/is a piece of crap. Don’t waste your money on it. You don’t “need” 2 cabs if you’re just gonna be playing in your basement of budget is an issue. Look at something like an Ampeg PF20 head and a 115 cab and on overdrive pedal like a Fulltone OCD. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

100 watts will be louder than you think to overdrive hard. I’ve got a 45 watt Randall that is loud through a 212 when it’s really cooking. Easily keeps up with a drummer but sounds killer through my 810. If you’re cool with guitar amps instead of bass, I use them just fine, try and find something smaller and it will drive a lot easier through the power stage.

Agreed for just basement solo playing, getting a 100 watt tube amp growing hair will be pretty dang loud.

There's a slew of 20-40 watt all-tube guitar amps out there. One of those may be a better (less huge loud) way to go. The Bugera has a few heads like 22 and 33 watt ones. Those turn up on GC fairly cheap.

Now once you start playing with others, if and when; the 100+ watt thing would likely be a safer bet, even going into really hard power tube overdrive. So consider that. If you do just go for the 100+ watt head now, you'll probably want a pedal too to add some gain before the amp, so you dont lose your hearing.

And good safe bet making sure you're using bass cabs and matching impedance properly.

Before I sold it, I tried my 100 watt Mesa Dual Rectifier with every bass cabinet I had at the time. (2X15, 4X10 and others.) I matched the impedance.

It made for a lousy bass amp. I would not have been able to gig with it. But it sure could get Lemmy’s tone.

I think it would be great for what you’re looking for.
