first stack? bass? confused

If you're on a tight budget the number one thing is to buy used.

Also if you're unhappy with your bass but have liked others like it you may have a dud. It happens from time to time that you'll end up with an instrument that for various reasons is just bad.

Assuming you can get an amp you like with the money from your folks then you could start shopping for a new (used) bass too while you sell the old amp, then after finding a bass you actually like see if you can make a deposit to have it held while you then sell the bass you have now and bingo, whole new rig.

On the other hand if you can get someone to look at the bass and they can set it up to where you found it acceptable then I'd definitely be all for going that route.

I'm a huge fan of the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups and you could do a lot worse.

On the issue of volume and your being able to keep up with everyone in the garage; it's going to be different in a club and I don't see that amp holding it's own on a regular gig. You need some more power and/or more speaker area.

well I made my decision (havent bought yet though). I went to GC and tried some amps which were nice, but i realized that since my band is really new, we probably arent going to get a gig until maybe after summer where I really need a new amp. I got a job working on the mantinence of a pool up by my cabin, and I can get minimum wage! So ill probably work all summer and then get whatever the hell I want!
Anyways so Im selling the bass on craiglist for 350 nd plus the 500 bucks for birthday money I have 850. So i go to gc and try basses (mainly fenders, didn't like the used sterling in my range) and I picked up the Geddy Lee. I plug it in blah blah and I could not believe how good it sounded! It was exactly how i thought a bass should sound! Even through pick, fingers, and slap it still sounded amazing! So as soon as I get the money, I'm gonna go buy that!
