First Stack need opinions.... please

ok so i am a ... o.c.d about things i buy they have to match.... lol so without a question they have to be from the same company lol. so, would the oranges be good for the price and sound? thats what i am getting at. i need a great sounding cab/amp with high watts for gigs and practice... im tired of using the drummers P.A. system lol

For regular gigs and practice the 2x12 orange will be more than enough. I can't think of a drummer loud enough to drown that out, although I've been surprised many a time. :D

What determines the Ohms is the drivers/speakers.

The amp MAY be able to go as low as 2,4, or 8 Ohms, but it's the drivers that are the 'resistance' if you will that finally gets you to the higher or highest capacity of the AMP.

It's somewhat confusing, but as the Ohms go down, the Watts go up - TO A POINT!

Great summary. If your still a little confused, read up on what Ohms are, then read this post. It'll help a lot.

so if the thing was at 4ohm and 8ohm the orange cab could get like 1000-1200 watts at 4 ohm... i only need 600w for gigs

what does IMO mean
and what does RMS on a cab mean? it says 600w RMS

oh and one more thing... if i wanted more watts in a cab could i get another cab to add to it... if it will be able to connect... not saying i will need another one... but would i need to get a higher watt head?

I'm a bit biased but I've played in punk and metal before and I have to say that Gallien Krueger KILLS in this department (if you're talking about A Day to Remember type stuff, or even thrashier styles).

You could save yourself a few bucks (if you're not set on tubes) and even go with the 700RB/1001RB over the Fusion. They have a clear grind that sits well in heavier styles. The 700RB has a switch voiced for the low B-string.

What makes you think that you need 600W? Just so you know, sound works exponentially, so 200W is NOT twice as loud as 100W... But 1000W IS twice as loud as 100W. Gallien Krueger rates their stuff rather modestly compared to other companies, and I don't think I've ever run out of headroom when I used my old-school 700RB, and that was only 380W.

I think for a first half stack, go with the GKs and either a 410 or a 212, which ever sounds best to you at the volumes that you'd play at. Then when you feel like you need to get a bit more out of your amp, buy another 410 or 212.

yes the drummer is loud... suggestions on stacks would be nice. I like the orange that was suggested... but idk if that will be enough since i am new to the stack department. lol. I only have a fender rumble 60.. lol for practice its sexy but i need more especially when we are to be gigging hopefully soon enough.

ok so if i buy things seperately what do i need for a amp head... that can hold wattages? idk what i need. i know i need a high watt amp. say i find one for 600-800w... whichever one... how many watts do i need for the head?

Honestly if I were you I would look around for used deals. For $1500 on the used market you can get a hell of an amp.
GK, Ampeg, SWR, are all good choices in my opinion. I would just search Craigslist. GuitarCenter has good used stuff sometimes too.
For a loud band I wouldn't want anything smaller than a 4x10. I use a 6x10 and I still want something bigger!

how about this... its... uh... local enough... live in the west... no big pickings for crap on craigslist out here lol

That SWR setup is awesome and I would probably buy that myself if I were there and shopping. And it comes with a bass!

Behringer is pretty cheap stuff honestly. I had a 4x10 from them and it really wasn't bad for the price. But, I knew I wanted to upgrade. But we still use a Behringer PA and it's been fine for practice.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. Have you gone to a music store and tried out stuff?

the cab determines what impedance your amp operates at. if you have an 8 ohm cab, it will operate at 8 ohms. likewise, a 4 ohm cab makes your amp operate at 4 ohms.

:D

ok, so i always like to get 8 ohm cabs for anything 410 or smaller because it makes it expandable with 4 ohm capable heads. but if you don't plan on expanding, a 4 ohm cab would be fine.

If you buy used, for $1500 you would be able to get a Ampeg 810 with a GK head (700RB-II or 1001RB-II are good choice IMO). I've used my 700RB-II in a 810 5-6 times and wow, that's sound great, and its LOUD !
