tattoo art - nice... I freq google search specifically for the term "tattoo art" sometimes for ideas. so the lines... well it all started with the carl thompson basses, and specifically the rainbow bass... I just took a picture of one and laid it out in a graphics editor... then just massaged the shape until I liked it. If you look at a ct bass it certainly is obvious that that is were this design originated... but this variation is definitely "my lines". That said... I'm gonna assume it's the ct part that caught your eye - and of course the fish hook is all ct. the guy is a flipping genious!

There are a lot of CT inspired builds out there, but you've done a better job than most in capturing the spirit of Carl's work, while still maintaining a sense of your own individuality. I particularly like the belly contour you carved into the back. I also like the headstock design, which compliments the body lines without under or overstating, and directs the strings in a straight line over the nut. I own a pair of CTs, and I would be happy to rock your Fish On bass!

that is the nicest compliment anyone could ever give me! seriously, thank you! admittedly the belly thing... I do that on all my builds now... "size 42 beer belly carve"... it's an ergonomics thing hehe!

Outstanding!! You are a true craftsman with beautiful vision! I built a doghouse once, and the dog wouldn't even go in it. My grandfather was a craftsman and made some beautiful sought after furniture. I don't have the eye for detail, or patience, but one thing I learned from him was how to admire and appreciate good craftsmanship. Very much admire the piece of art that you created!!!

what a coincidence... I have a lot of craftsman tools... must be what yer picking up on (hehe). thank you. I've never met your gradnfather... but I like him! I was a cabinetmaker as a young man and picked up a thing or two there... and have a healthy respect for folks that build furniture. My grandfather was a guy who never made anything pretty... but he made all sorts of useful doo dads. I suppose a good part of my diy spirit came from him... and my grandpa on my otherside who was a machinist. I raise a toast to grandpas! thank you for the kind words - very much appreciate it!

Haha! My pleasure sir. Not to hijack for anything other than you beautiful bass, but he primarily made tables, dressers, cabinets and such. Here is a corner cabinet he made that is one of many pieces I have of his since he passed, and a prized possession. A lot of his cabinets, he would punch his own tin plates to put in as well. I have some of his scrap practice tins that I just snapped together for this guitar'ish shaped thing. I have some of his completed plates that I am going to use as a backsplash in my kitchen when I remodel, as well as hang the corner cabinet with new cabinets that will match as close as possible to my Pepa's cabinet lol.

that is a good eye. now I can't unsee it. that spacing is actually just that font... i don't ever remember what font it was but putting it on a curve I have to admit... looks a bit further than it should be. I tip my hat. the fingerboard lines: well... I don't play fretless a lot... back in the day I learned fretless on a dean bass with fretlines... and altho even with them I struggle... pretty sure I'd stuggle a lot more w/o! thank you for taking the time!

hehe is so my fav primus song. lester is the man! yes, the convex backside... well... admittedly I have been inspired by the spector basses there... I remember the first time I saw one back in the early nineties and just being blown away by that fact. My beer belly has grown quite a bit since then so... had to compensate! thanks for noticing!

Absolutely stunning!! I've never built an instrument but spent many years in woodworking, mostly cabinetry, but also built a lot of unique pieces from an artistic standpoint! ! So with that I can recognize and understand what went in to building that, much respect!! You do really good work and some great playing to top it off! These are the reasons I visit this site!!
