"Fish On" purpleheart 5 string fretless... would appreciate your feedback...

Dang, that is a pretty bass. I was leaning towards the fish inlay being an Alligator gar from down south and not a sturgeon, but it is a caviar container I guess. Nice work!

I remember the build thread for this. The work is outstanding, and the sound is as impressive as the looks.

Hey, I'm a wood lover and your work on this bass is amazing.
Personal taste: I would have done a smaller bridge and Fish theme is not my taste.

Very nice bass, you can be proud! I've seen pro work far worse than yours.

thank you very much! I cut my teeth as a cabinetmaker and solid surface fabricator as a young man and sometimes I miss that work - it is very rewarding... but my knees and back don't miss it at all!

I think it looks great. I love purpleheart. So much so that I had my last custom made with a full purpleheart top and fret markers and a roasted maple fretboard. The back is burled mango, so the overall look is kind of the opposite of yours. My understanding is that purpleheart is hard to work with, did you find that to be the case?

thank you. I actually had flirted with a smaller bridge but it just looked out of place so I echoed the top horn and that seemed to tie it together... point taken tho. thank you again

thanks. I did not find purpleheart that hard to work with... it's def a harder wood... somewhere around rock maple. I've worked with wenge before and THAT is difficult to work... and you get lots and lots of slivers... but I didn't really notice much difficulty working with purpleheart compared to figured maple. thank you again for the reply!

jeebus that is a monster! lots of stories of the one that got away that was "this big" but that is the real deal! yes, inlay is a sturgeon... or s'posed to be... reference to a primus song. we had gar fish near where I grew up (green bay wi) but never anything even close to that big! thanks for the reply!

Beautiful!

You cut wood with the precision of a sturgeon. What kind of tunas did you use on it? I'll bet it plays betta than anything I've owned too. :D
