No, it was a standard Ray34. I don’t think the neck was oiled, it was more like an untreated finish, but it had a laquered matching headstock, and the laquer ended in a line just below the headstock, like on a standard StingRay.Never seen a import ray with an oiled neck. Was your Ray43 the higher end of the import model?
Not in and of itself - there are StingRays without the compensated nut, the pre-Ernie Ball StingRays, and the EBMM Classic series, for instance. But then, of course, a lot of other things on the bass would be different as well.The lack of a compensated nut ought to give it away
