Fishy Stingray at GC

I have generally had good experiences buying off of GC’s used site, and the guys at my local GC have always treated me good. However, I recently purchased a 2015 MIM P Bass for $350 from GC used online site that came with several desirable upgrades one of which was a fender deluxe molded case that would have been $150 brand new. The bass looked and played good, but had an intermittent hum from the pickups which were after market SPB-3’s. Took it back to GC and they were unable to fix it. I then took it to a guitar tech friend of mine to see if he could fix it. He opened it up and found that not only was the wiring For the pickup screwed up (which on its own would have been a fairly easy fix), but the body of my bass was not the original body or even a Fender body. The bridge was screwed into what amounted to a big ball of spackle. The only thing Fender on my bass was the Neck. Thank goodness for GC’s return policy.

It is of course always possible to make mistakes, even for shop staff. But the manager’s claim that they’d had the neck off, and confirmed that both neck and body was Ernie Ball, was obviously untrue. In which case it borders on fraud.

See the one selling on my local facebook ad.
I messaged him and asked him to revise his post.

Not USA, there isn’t the line on the back of the neck where the poly finish stops and the oil finish begins

Ray34ca's have a different neck.
It's not just the SLO/1.5" profile that made them feel better, their finish is taken down as well.

Mine came in a big ol combo trade deal and I instantly was confused by the bass when I played it.
Didn't feel like a knock off and the frets reminded me of my 62ri....kinda.
There have been other ca's I took a look at on my local CL, they're all the same.
I want a 35ca now.

Someone just did a sticker job on that GC bass.

Looks like a
Shouldn't the neck be oil finished instead of gloss?
If it’s a StingRay, definitely (except if it’s a Classic).

It’s nothing like it, however. What we have here, based on the pictures posted, is a SBMM SUB Ray4 with a fake headstock decal, aftermarket Chinese bridge and Schaller tuners, passing itself off as an EBMM StingRay (with the apparent knowledge of GC).

In addition to all that's been discussed already, the headstock logo on a USA bass is silk-screened, not a water slide or any other kind of stick-on decal. Check that. If it's a stick-on of any kind, it's a fake logo.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! Sorry to get back to everyone so late, work has been nuts lately.

I might go back this week and low ball the crap out of them and see what happens. I knew it was a good idea to trust my instincts on this one. I kinda hope that they accept my low ball offer because this bass just felt sooooo good.
