Flanger or Phaser?

I just got a byoc flanger (Build Your Own Clone) and I like it a lot. Lots of room for modulation and you can get a sort of phased sound (enough that I don't feel like I need a phaser on my board at all times), a chorusey effect, and a leslie like effect at higher settings.

Def. worth checking out or building yourself.

...although I like both, I prefer phasers. I have 5, just can't bring myself to sell, lol...Cusack Tap-A-Phase, Studio Electronics ModMax, Toadworks Phantasm, Maxon PH-350, & an Analogman Small Stone...

...one flanger that doesn't get much love, but deserves it, is the Line6 LiquaFlange, it's outstanding & really versatile...

i had posted a similar thread a while back, from then i've had both of them at different times. didnt find a flanger much useful with the band, it was a boss bf-3. then i sold it and bought a small stone nano and found it too subtle for my tastes but i realized phasers could be more useful. now i have settled on an ibanez ph-7 phaser which gives me the sound i want, straight away. never bothered to see what the knobs do besides the rate/speed knob :P

i sometimes wish i'd buy another flanger maybe a boss bf-2 or 3 again because they were just too awesome for trippy jam or solos

Phaser on my big board, flanger on my fretless board.

I like phasers for warmer stuff: funk, reggae/dub etc

I like flangers for darker stuff: rock, ambient etc

Flangers also tend to emphasize the mwah for fretless, and you can turn down the regeneration for more of a chorus sound.

Right now I'm using a T.C. Electronics XII B/K Phaser and a Maxon FL-9. I don't like Maxon footswitches, but otherwise I love this flanger. I am totally digging the T.C. Electronic as well, though I am gassing for the Keeley and new Subdecay phasers still.

My favorite combos are filter with phaser and flanger with delay.

They have a distinct sound. They are deeper and more prominent, but I would also generally call them more "pulse-y" as well. Less upper harmonic "sparkle" and more "whoomp" if those onomatopoeias work for you at all.

I like it most with a slow rate, like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] of the Pigtronix EP-1.

I've always been a phaser man, I prefer the Small Stone to the Phase 90. Flangers make my skin crawl which is kind of cool for a little while but then just gets uncomfortable. I really don't care for that 80's metallic flanger sound.

This is something I've kind of gone back and forth on. I really love Flange (the MXR R117 is a personal fave), but found I just wasn't using it during live gigs...For what we do, I found the phaser was a much better choice, and I have a handful of tunes I use it on through the night (subtly)...I use a Maxon phase tone...I just dig that phase 90 thing, and this one takes it up a notch, without so much of the lowend loss...

I would also like to try out a polyphase...
