Double Bass Flashlights

I'm liking my Jetbeam RRT0-XML. For the money, it's as good or better than any Surefire I've owned, and I've had plenty.

The Jetbeam has a strobe and infinitely variable brightness, takes 123's, AA's, and rechargeable. It's well built and stupid bright.

My second most carried light since I acquired the RRT is a Surefire E2DL, which is also an outstanding light.

I have a Fenix PD30 that I feel the same way about. $30 and it's crazy good. I bought an old beater Surefire 6P that has some problems that I'm trying to work through. Fun hobby and I had no idea how badly or often I needed flashlights until I had a few good ones sitting around.

I'll check out JetBeam. I've been aware of them, but haven't seen them.

I have small harbor freight flashlights in every room of my home. This is something you do when you live in the mountains, and deal with power outages.
Each of my pickups has a 5 cell maglight, with the LED conversion.
I have a big rechargeable spotlight near my back door. I go out that to get wood, and sometimes it is nice to know what is out there, first

Expect the usual percentage of moronic responses from BG OT.

I have one of the Surefire Executive lights. Great light, compact, powerful. Perfect for this time of year when all is dark.

A couple of comments:

It was expensive.
It runs fairly hot.
The replacement batteries aren't cheap.
The replacement bulbs aren't cheap.

Sizewise is is larger than the smallest Mini-Maglite. It is smaller that the next size up 2 AA mag. Mostly it is shorter as the 3 volt Lithium Battery is very squat.

I am happy with it, but I bought it back in 2006 or so, when the economy was better and I had better disposable income.
Right now I probably would have serious reservations based on the pricing. Plus, I have a bad habit of losing stuff.

This model is discontinued, but the battery, lamp and replacement component pricing is probably pretty typical.

So, I have a 3-DCell Maglight and a...1 AA? Maglight, both incandecent and have always been pretty impressed with them, until I discovered good LED lights. I'm planning on putting a simple $15 LED module in my 3D, just to make it brighter and give me better battery life for emergencies (we have earthquakes here...and darkness in the winter). My 3 1/2 year old has taken over the AA and I don't want to blind him, so I'll leave it be.

When I stumbled onto this weird world of hi-end flashlights, I picked up the Fenix I mentioned above. It's smaller than my mini-mag and crazy (blindingly) bright. Much brighter and clearer than my 3-D Maglight and has a strobe function, should I ever need to disorient an attacker or open a fun house on a budget. I've gotten in the habit of carrying it most of the time at night and it's amazing how often I use it. They're about $65, but somehow I picked one up for $30.

The Surefire thing is such a cult that I found an old 6P on eBay that had some problems and picked it up cheap. I've just about got all the problems worked out of it and it's been fun learning to understand how they work.

I registered on candlepower forums and taking lessons learned from here, did plenty of searching and reading before posting any questions. Very nice people and good responses. Someone asked for my address and mailed me a part without wanting anything in return. They also advised me to call Surefire with my problems. I balked, but then did. This is a 15-20 year old flashlight with a non-stock LED unit in it. I called their customer service number and a guy in California answsered on the 2nd ring. i was honest with him about what I had and didn't ask him for anything, but was I on the right path? He gave me some advice on cleaning and then mailed me a new ($42) tailcap under warranty even though he said "I doubt that it's the problem". Wow! American company with on-shore customer service, standing behind their product to extremes! I understand why people are loyal to them. It's working now and I've got so many spare parts that I've almost got a 2nd Surefire. I'll keep my eye on eBay and CPF until the one piece I'm missing shows up. Plan on having an every day carry light, somethign in my bass bag and lights stashed the cars, basement and bedrooms.

Haven't dropped big dough yet, but I can see that there are people who do. Some need to (cops, corrections officiers, people in rural Minnisota, etc), some are just chasing a hobby. Way deeper than I'll go, but it's been a nice diversion.

I hear ya.

The Surefire Elite e2e is my go to when I really want to see something. Amazing how often that happens. behind the (vintage Marantz) stereo, behind the computer, behind the amp.

I don't know about Seattle, but right now it gets dark here in the NE before 5PM. Can barely make it to my front door without a light.

I didn't sign up for the candlepower forums. I would probably end up with 50 flashlights. Same reason I stay out of the basses forum. GAS just sets in.

I downloaded a flashlight app for my Android phone. It just has the whole screen light up a solid while.

It gives off a sheet of light that doesn't have the various bright spots that LED or bulb lights with a reflector does.

And it's always where your phone is.

It's not for looking for that skunk in your back yard, but it sure is handy if you drop something under a desk or you need to see that label behind the printer or reading in bed while your partner is sleeping or going down the stairs to the basement when the light bulb suddenly burns out, etc.
