flats for my fender jazz

Anyone use flatwound strings on their Fender Jazz? Mine is a 2008 American Standard. What kind of flatwound strings do you recommend? I play mostly soul, hiphop, jazz and funk. I read that Me'shell Ndegeocello uses La Bella Quarter Wound. Anyone tried them?

I haven't used La Bella's but I have used Chromes. I've realized they are sound I've been trying to get with rounds but never could achieve.

Let the opinions flow! I am a HUGE fan of D'Addario Chromes. They'll give you more top-end and low-mid than pure thump like other flats will.

You'll find supporters for each brand, typically what they prefer. Me, I like Fender flats, either 9050ML or 9050L.

There was totally a thread on this not too long ago but I don't seem to be able to find it.

I got Chromes on mine at the moment. They seem like a good choice to maintain some of that modern "edge" that a lot of folks like a J-bass for (even slap well).

GHS Precision flats, La Bellas, and Fenders are my favorites. I have La Bella 760FLs on one of my Jazz basses and GHS Precisions on a Precision.

Sadowsky flats!

They give you a more modern take on the Labellas (they are made by then to Sadowsky's specs) and are a bit more upfront (less thump) and way growlier, so you can cop the old soul vibe and get the sustain for Hip Hop, etc. Apparently a lot of session bassists are using them now, no surprise to me at all.

I love the Labella 760FLs but I find the Sadowskys to be more versatile. Either way you can't go wrong, they both sound splendid on a J!

Another one here . I've got 9050ML's on my Jazz, they're quite high tension but that's how I like it.

760fl la bellas on an active jazz plus for about a month and hopefully will only change them in 3-5 years.. right mix of thump and tone. lovely for the sly and family man sound.... to jamerson and even straight jazz standards.

I'd go for TI's first. If you wanted a more traditional sounding flat, then I'd vote for the GHS precision flats .45-.95 IMHO
