FLATS Rediscovered!

@Heavy Blue
Nice! great info, thanks for the rundown. I have a couple sets on the way, one more pack of ghs flats and 9050L's. After loading my P as you said, blissful!

The plan is to go ahead and try them out on different basses and see where they land. I have a CV 60's J bass and a VM J and a Std fretless pj that have never worn flats, can't wait to give em a shot!

Thanks for the recommendations Heavy Blue :thumbsup:. I am good to go as far as having the fender designed p/u's in the J's (I like them) and have no plan to swap em' out. Out of curiosity what Jazz bass and what p/u's are you runnin? Thanks in advance.
Hey Stone. Jazz basses are ‘13 VM w/Duncan Designed & satin neck and an ‘18 MIM Players also with stock pups. Alas, no exotica over here lol. Tone’s in the fingers right?:laugh:;)

If I ever replace the pups I’ll go noiseless for sure. I really like the SD Apollos or the Aguilar 4J-HC.

Just wondering if your CV60’s J is Chinese or Indonesian and if it’s Indo what do you think of it compared to your VM?

I really like my CV but the VM is the better build, hands down.

RIGHT! ;)

My CV 60's J is 2012 Chinese CGS...VM J is Indo ICS 2013 the year they switched from Duncan designs to Fender designed alnico's.
Both are great basses no doubt about it but my Chinese CV is a phenom, it's a freakishly nice bass, even better than my MIM...

I have the light gauge GHS P Flats on a Squier CV 60's P. And I will admit they can sound a little dull at low apt room volumes, but turn those puppies up at (or somewhat close to) gig volume, and that's when they come to life! With the tone knob rolled off, they give a deep chocolate thump, and a low mid punch. Enough that you have to be careful about rattling the neighbors walls!! Especially with a heavy pick like I use. Turn up the tone knob a little, and they can clank some too. 60's and 70's tones in a nutshell. That being said, I also really like Dunlop flats, and EB Cobalt flats too, as they are more suited for music that needs brighter bass tones IMHO.

They must have done the pup change during ‘13 as yours appears to have the fender designed ones and my ‘13 VM 70’s Jazz came with DD’s. Nice pups but the leads on Squier pups are kind of fragile imo. They came off the bridge pup.

Does yours have the glossier neck as well?
