Interesting. Because “punch” to me is more about the speed and amplitude of the initial attack of a note than about its tonal characteristics. In other words how ‘snappy’ it is. Or how hard it kicks.

Judicious use of compression is one well known way to thicken up your sound provided you use the right compressor. But compression is an entirely separate topic best left to its own thread.
