Flatwound Club

using flats for a long time..my latest (and only) instrument has a custom set courtesy of the string genius at D'addario, Fan Tao (who was the lead engineer on Ned Steinberger's electric cello)..including a flatwound .020 for the high F and a .032 for the high C.

Of interest to any short scale players here..sometimes a Chrome guitar string will also fit on a bass..there's a lot more variety in the guitar gauges, and they are a lot cheaper as well.

Rant: Just visited GC. They have a good selection of strings, so long as you prefer roundwounds. Everybody and their dog are using rounds. Apparently, basses are never shipped with flats. Prolly because, by themselves, rounds sound richer with more overtones and a more organic sound.

I just clicked on "Last page." You guys are picking numbers. Hmmmm.........?

Went to Guitar Center and they had only 2 sets of flats out of all the strings they carry (sign o the times, I guess)....Chromes and Jazz77s. Went with Chromes on the new SX P bass and they sound fine.

Guess I'll have to order my tape wounds through the mail...
