Flatwound slap samples?

So heres the dealio;

I Really love the sound of flatwound strings fingerplayed, and really want to make the switch from my roto's. however, i dont slap much, but if i couldnt stand the sound of flats slapped i dont think id bother with them simply for the reason that i only have one "good" bass and it needs to be as versatile as possible.

Pros and cons you dig?

If anyone could post there opinions and/or soundclips of this sort of playing it would be much appreciated

these are TI Jazz Flats, onboard eq set flat, straight into the sound card, strings are about 12 months old on these recordings.

pros- i like the strings

cons-hard to get the "modern" slap sound

thankyou very much billbern, Flats it is. Im always having to tame the high end eq when i slap anyway, not a fan of that in your face pop.

The wonders of TB eh.

flats are awsome for slap, if you dont want that hidiously bright sound you get

Took me a long time to realize that Flats are very good sounding in a band setting. The more I listen to 60s and 70s music I can hear a slap now and then, and it has got to be a flat wound on most of them. Bottom line is that they work well.

While I like a bright, "Marcus" slapping sound, flats can give your slapping some old school funk vibe, especially on a P.

I do not think that TI Flats slap very good. The E does not have a whole lot of body slapped IME. I did have a set of the EB flats 50-105 on a P that had a really cool old school slap tone.

I prefer TI flats and have them on two basses, but the heavier flats slap better IME.

I really have issue with this...

the joke is understood... I know you (and others) mean offence by it. A line needs drawing though I think.

Well, in my defense, I am way to used to the effects forum where evey other thread is "what kind of od/dist/fuzz do I need for bass?" or "what did this famous bassist use for this sound?". When the question has been answered a hundred times including in 10 different mega threads and a bunch of other threads, it becomes really old answering the same question over and over again. If someone would ask the simple would this (blank) do (blank) to my my sound, the question would be a little more interesting to answer and carry on a conversation with. So telling someone to do their homework before they ask a question is kinda needed. Other wise it's the same answer they could have looked for, and then posted a different thread with their specific questions.

As for the thread necro "crap", what I was trying to point out was "hey, this thread is from 2006! It's older than my grandma! What a coincidence! It's like TB history!" not "hey dumbass, you pulled up a three year old thread to ask a question!". If I could find a picture that showed someone pulling up a pot of gold out of the dirt that had a thread picture in it, I would use it. Except no one would know what it is.

But in most cases that a thread is pulled back up from a few years back, it gets closed anyways because of people just trolling. In the case of this thread however, it was to ask for clips that were from a link posted in 2006. Most people (your an exception james) have long lost those clips, and the answer really never comes forth. In this case it did.

And I know it probably was a typing mistake, but no, I did not mean any offense by the picture I posted, just a simple observation with my observation being summed up in a picture.

Dude, seriously, no offense meant to you. This thread had some really cool sound samples in it. I'm also really surprised that they worked.

Agreed! you may forget, but I was a Mod for a long while here... specifically in Bassists. How many "I don't get Jaco" or "Incubus bassist deathmatch" threads do you think I've had to close!

I'm sorry but both scenarios cannot be reprimanded simultaneously... and like you said, In this case (and MANY others) the bumping of an old thread worked. The unofficial TB mantra has always been "Do a search"... I'm glad to reread old *ON TOPIC* threads. Heck, I've been known to bump threads all the time is Recordings and Bassists.
