I think there are probably many bass players better than Flea, but there are very few that can say they recorded an album like Blood Sugar Sex Magic, an album that is a part of music history. In fact the majority of today bass virtuosos can't say that...

I like him, but when slapping, isn't his thumb nearly vertical to the string whereas it should actually be horizontal?
i think he's good at what he does. i think claiming that anyone is the best bass player ever is silly, although if i were to do such a thing i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be him...he's playing for thom yorke now, that's gotta be worth something.

These ridiculous threads normally die down once school starts. Sheesh!
These threads are always good for a laugh. I always wonder about what makes someone the "best" bass player, I only see peoples opinion of who is best....but never why that player is the best, just that they are.
Very well said! It comes down to who you like to listen to the best.
You can learn something from anyone if you listen. They don't have to be rich and famous either...Now go practice!
Threads like these flat out stupid. Theres one concerning a different bass player every day it seems like, and they all read the same. Theres the posts that have respect for the musician and the work they've put out, and theres the others that take shots at them though I doubt the musician has ever done anything to offen the poster.
