Flea Fender Custom Shop Bass

I watched "Rock am Ring" on TV and was asking myself, what bass is he playing...? Couldn't read the sign on the headstock.

At least this maybe is able to make me play 7enders again, but I would like a Precision Body and Neck. :rolleyes:

Otherwise, I am fine with my MusicMan - Basses. :thumbsup:

Umm... RHCP were formed in '83, first album was '85. The MM Stingray was introduced in 1976.

Bernard Edwards (CHIC) started using one almost immediately, as did Louis Johnson, Lonnie Turner (Steve Miller Band), Pino Palladino, Paul Denman (Sade), Benjamin Orr (The Cars), John Deacon, Gary Tallent - all were using Stingrays pre-RHCP. :) ;)

Sounds better than a Stingray IMO for that kind of playing; better mids and less "click"; which there's a lot of with the 'Ray and bashing away at the strings like he's doing. Some funk feel also gets lost playing so hard (and also faster, (although not all songs)). I don't know why they don't play like when they're recording? Would sound way better IMO.

I borrowed a...very pink ESP fiver. Body neck and head stock, it was shocking to say the least. Oddly enough it got more female attention than the solid white Dyna fiver I had. The ESP guy wanted to try a Dyna long enough to be sure before he pulled the trigger so we swapped fivers for a while and the ladies loved that thing.

All great players, but I have absolutely no doubt that Flea has sold more Stingrays than all of them combined.
