Flea... with METALLICA?!?!

It's hard to hear cliff a lot if you're not listening for him because he spends a lot of time mirroring the rhythm guitar parts.... Example: master of puppets , he is essentially playing exactly what James is through the heavy parts and then he slows down and carries them, beautifully if I might add, through the clean part that leads in to the first solo. Additionally someone needs to listen to and justice for all again because that was Newstead's showcase . Obviously he's much more audible on the black album ,but he is there in force on justice playing like a boss. As is cliff on the previous three albums, you just have to listen carefully.
