Flea's Shell Pink Jazz Bass

"..As cool as John Paul Jones", huh. First of all, never happen. There is something to be said for understated classy coolness that no over the top looney tune dancing around with a tube sock over his junk will ever understand. Flea is cool in his way, but come on, JPJ? Get serious.

Different strokes, man. It's all good. Flea's not my personal cup of tea, but I'd give my left one to be half the musician (and he IS a musician!) he is.

There's plenty of room on the planet for all styles. Increase the peace.

I wasn't saying he didn't have the right, or that I still wouldn't want that bass or that it was ruined or anything like that...just saying that I thought it was silly to do that and that I would probably never do that. Just like I don't understand people putting stickers on their laptops, bumpers, etc. I guess I'm just anti-sticker. There are plenty of things that others do that I think are stupid and others think are awesome...has been and will always be this way.

Second of all, I wish I could buy a bass of that value for a reason that ridiculous. God it must be awesome to be stupid rich. For the record I thought the stickered up wal was ridiculous too, but whatever, referenece the stupid rich comment.

Im pretty sure the JPJ comment was a joke...

Talk about getting serious.

Guys living at Flea's level feel a need to demonstrate their "oh, whatever"-ness to the rest of the world. It makes sense: If Flea treated that bass like most of us would, he'd appear to be down here at our our level. By defacing it (only a little, and not permanently), he says to all of us, "Oh, is this a valuable old bass? I hadn't noticed. I don't bother with such menial trivia... I just play what sounds good". And we're all supposed to go, "Oooh, he's SO wise and sage..."

Of course, the fact that he IS makes up for it...

wow, there is a lot of dont pick on flea coming from people who have never met the guy. I call em as I see em. If he was joking, it succeeded cuz I laughed at the very thought of it. I like flea, bleieve it or not, I like his playing and I like the peppers' music. I don't begrudge him his stickers or his dopey kidbasses. I was only remarking on how great it would be to be rich and famous enough to get a pre-cbs jazz just because I am a JPJ fanboy. Can anyone disagree with that?

Only would only have to look at his latest business venture - making basses that kids can afford AND that play well, and creating an educational environment for said kids that is nothing short of positive - to be able to determine whether Flea has his priorities in order. Ya gotta hand it to him.

I do think he is trying to do something good for kids, but I do not know any kid that can afford a $500 bass.

What gives him the right to deface his bass??? It's his!!! Last I remember, owning a bass gives you the right to deface it, whether you're rich or not.

Besides, what's worth more...a 61 Jazz Bass in shell pink, or a 61 Jazz Bass in shell pink that belongs to Flea and has the stickers to prove it? Sheesh, get over it already! It's just a bass. Boy oh boy, this place...first you all complain about the price...then you complain about the stickers. And none of you have any right to complain about either. Don't like it? Don't buy it if it comes up for sale.
