Fleetwood Mac - Ugh.

Thank God we're tackling big issues like this one !!

Bassist (John McVie?) plays a G instead of an F at 0:12, and I can't believe they'd leave that mistake in. Every other time for this progression, the bass plays the correct notes, so it's like... why the first one? Why????

Come on, am I crazy? Why were they OK with this take? It's a I-IV-V and it's like the band don't even care if the bassist plays a V on an IV.

Maybe the guitar player was crying?
Or maybe he was going his on Waaa!

On a different but related subject, for the ultimate vocal screw up that was left in listen to THE MAMA'S AND THE PAPA'S "I saw her again". coming into the final chorus around the 2:40 mark Denny Doherty came in too early and sang the first 3 words of the chorus before he caught himself but they kept on going on anyway. when they listened to the playback they liked the mistake so much they left it in and the song became a huge hit. it's a mistake that adds to the song.

Well, I hear it plain as day, and after 40+ years of writing, playing, and recording bass lines, I know a flub (fumble, stumble, clam, call it what you want) when I hear one, 'cuz I've certainly made my fair share. No way that was intentional. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt, say maybe he was doing some kind of slide or gliss from G to F, it's not musical or well-timed in the least. I vote "clam."

However, I can easily believe they left it in. It has actually happened a lot over the decades in pop music (before autotune and digital manipulation), on just about every instrument. Who knows what the prevailing mentality was, or where McVie's head was that day, but this might have been the best he was good for, and it's a relatively minor flub that doesn't wreck the track. It probably could have been easily punched in/out and fixed, but then you sometimes end up with an audible hiccup or volume discrepancy (again, pre-digital era).

I love music with flubs. Always have, always will. I also like Cindy Crawford's mole.

...and that is why they are called, Beauty Marks.
The English elites in the 17th thru 19th century would cosmetically add a mole to one of their otherwise mole-less cheeks as a nod to Royalty who commonly had natural facial moles.

Are you directing the, "Who cares" at me? If so, there is no need. I made no statements as to whether the flub mattered or not. I just pointed out that it is, in fact, there, despite many people stating that it isn't.

@2F/2F - Not at you personally. If you want to direct something directly to someone here you use the “at” symbol and the user name to create a link (see above) so the person and everyone else knows the comment was directed to that member.

I was responding in general to “it’s there.” It is. It’s audible if you listen for it. And my comment (again to the general readership) is even given that, “So what?”

I quoted your post to give my comment some context, rather than have it come across as a repeat of my earlier one. Hope that clarifies. :)

Didn't the bass player on David Bowies 'Jean Jeanie' come into the chorus too soon on the song - like a bar or 2 early?
Bowie just left it like that.... I can't tell any mistake on the Fleetwood Mac Song though
You're right, and Bowie shouts out "get back on it" and they do. That's rock n roll for you! BTW seen a few bands cover this and try to put the mistake in, sounds horrible. I guess they think it's deliberate or something
