The SWR Baby(Electric) Blue head is a great amp. I currently have 2 of them and use a Berg HT112 cab. The tone is very nice and works well with upright.

Kurt was also very nice to me and I owned quite a few of his cabs because of that. From what I remember about the 4 x8" I don't think it would hold up well against some of today's cabs, but I give Kurt credit for trying to make it work.

Okay, so after all this discussion, I have decided to pre-order the EA Micro 300, Wizzy 110 & Backpack.

I read through Adrian Cho's other posts regarding future gear. I recognize he isn't wild about the Micro 300 not having XLR DI or HPF, but I am going to give it a shot being somewhat new to the whole concept.

I have my Sadowsky DI/Preamp, which does have XLR for DI in case I need it.

I have also decided to try the Rev Solo Pick Up, and the Upton $99 German Bow. While at the same time putting in an order for Gollihur's Pro Bass Bag.

So off to Arizona now to see if I can secure a better instrument!

Oh, and of course I need to become a better player.

P.S. Still Hanging on to the SWR Baby Blue. The 2x8 Cab has had both speakers replaced a while back too. One is an Eminence. Forget what the other one was, but it was whoever was 2nd generation OEM speaker.

FWIW, I am aware of a product coming out fairly shortly which - if effective, and I have no reason to doubt that it would be - would allow a very simple method of incorporating a variable high pass filter (plus a phase reverse, plus impedance buffering) in such a manner as to be easily integrated into any rig.

I am mentioning this perhaps prematurely only to give people who are about ready to plunk down money on a head, preamp, etc. something to think about. I have no financial or other interest in this forthcoming product, and in truth, I have not seen even a prototype, so it might not work, but on paper, it looks like something that would really be of interest to a lot of upright players.

Brief update.

I have acquired a 15 year old Hungarian, fully carved, round back, 7/8 size bass, with violin corners from String Emporium (PHX).

It has a slightly bright D & G string (but that could be partly due to new strings), with an amazingly clear and responsive low end. Very even all around the finger board.

I have decided to try the Realist pick up instead of the Rev Solo II, as it will be minimal set up- maybe the darker aspects will balance out the high end in amplified settings.

Back to String Emporium- Steve is a gracious guy who gave me the time, space and opportunity to make a decision well within my budget. Thanks to him, I was able to arrive at my decision with confidence and relative ease. I would recommend to anybody looking to get a good quality instrument to look him up.
