my Ibanez RG has a floyd rose floating bridge, and is in need of some new strings. My question is, do I need to get special strings for a floyd rose bridge, or can I use regular strings?

You can use regular strings. The ball-end of the string needs to be cut off. Then the strings are clamped in the bridge behind the saddles. There are some good set-up tips on www.ibanezrules.com and on youtube as well...

Yes, the original requires the string to be cut.
Quite a few of the licensed ones and all the copies I know use the ball ends.

I cut off the unwound leader part and string it backwards. If you break a string it's quick and easy to loosen the locking nut, pull it down and keep going without having to change the whole string. I can do it in less than 2 minutes which is great if you break a string at a show.
