Flying Drones are becoming a life threatening problem here in California.

Humans are so messed up. It won't be such a bad thing when these things come to life and kill us all and let cats (and their dumb friends, the dogs) run the planet.
Sad that the couple lost their home in the fire. Too bad the air tankers could not have dropped a protective boundary of fire retardant on and around the structure because they were grounded.
An idea about the privacy issue: A small laser should be able to blind a video camera without doing any permanent damage. The only issue is aiming it, but if people can make drones fly, then they can make lasers that point themselves at drones.
It is unfortunate.
It's quite possible that had drones not been present, the aircraft might not have been grounded and may have been able to drop their goods, preventing their home from burning. It's also quite possible that drones had nothing to do with it and nothing could've saved their home. To suggest a direct relationship without presenting and info to support it is spin.
^^^ No one will ever know what outcome would have been. But what I got from the article is the couple who just lost their home where wondering if their loss could have been prevented if the Tankers were able to fly. For some people, it does make the trauma harder to deal with and understand when it could have been prevented. I did not pick up on the spin part until your brought it up.
Happen again a few hours ago. There is a big fire on I-15, the interstate between LA and Las Vegas. The fire was extremely fast moving and jumped the freeway. People had to abandon their cars and run for safety. When the aviation assets arrived on scene they could not enter the fire area because at least one drone was occupying the airspace. The fire quickly got a lot larger, now at 3500 acres and still burning, destroyed 20 cars plus 2 big rigs and their cargo. Also at least five homes were destroyed and people will suffer. F-n idiots. This should be a felony.

Ban them. Only those with legitimate commercial/official needs should be allowed to possess them.
Seriously, though, I really think it's time to do something about them. This nonsense is only going to get worse, and unfortunately, people are going to have to die (as usual) before the powers-that-be will do something..
Have no fear kiddies, the FAA and LE are working on it as we type. The rough draft says only "official" government organizations will be allowed to fly the vertical takeoff multi rotor craft. As with everything else in government, there will be exceptions for press, scientific research, etc. They are also debating "limited" commercial use but so far no serious guidelines have been established to define this category.

I saw that on the news last night. Scary looking.
I also saw a short story on CBS about a drone flying contest. The "pilots" had giant goggles that gave them the view that the drone was "seeing" and they ran through an obstacle course. That's a better use for these things that I could see being allowed, but what's happening now with these clowns just flying wherever they want has to stop.
I'm not sure if anybody has died as a result of these incidents but if and when it does happen I think the idiot civilian(s) flying these drones should at the very least be brought up on involuntary manslaughter charges. Then, just maybe, at least few of them might think twice about interfering with or prohibiting response to an emergency situation.
Even if death is not the result there should still be restitution and fines levied against the operator(s) in question.

I agree, without some heavy consequences or the threat there of, I don't see this kind of behavior subsiding any time soon
