Flying V Basses

I know of the Gibson V Bass but those are long discontinued. Any other good V shaped basses? More of the classic V look not modern looking. I watched a Ozzy video with Randy Roads (polka dot Flying V guitar) and I've been GAS'ing for it in bass form.

i'd say depends on the style of music you play, but i know dean makes some V basses. Gib Vs are hard to come by (i think 230 or so were ever produced), but are worth it for cool factor IMO

From a Gibson-lovers forum, the Gibson's were lame compared to the .....Epiphones(!!). There are others that can be had at a reasonable price also. The shape says "Cool Factor" but may have some impact on actual sound.

Jackson made a V Bass very similar to the Randy Rhoads guitar. They occasionally pop-up on ebay form time to time.

I have one epiphone v-bass pop up one ebay. I dont know if it was a custom job or a rebuilt thing, or if epiphone made them.

The Dean Flying V was very, very heavy, had a HUGE neck, very, very high action, sounded like dookie.

I wish Dean would make a high-end model.

There is a company on ebay called "Davis" that sells a V-Bass. Really cheap. I have yet to see anyone comment on the quaility.

Good luck on the gibson v-bass. Wasnt there less than 500 of those made or something?

Your best bet would probably be a jackson, if you want a 4-string.

I want to say that Warmoth used to make V-bass bodies. They sell the necks still.

I was trying to see if the Gibson Flying V and the V_bass were the same body. I think Warmoth does sell V-Guitar bodies. I suppose if the neck fits and you orderded it un-routed for guitar pick-ups....

If by some chance that I got a good amount of money do you think I could get a V style bass custom made? Doesn't seem to be a popular shape for bass and I've only heard bad things about Dean. Mark that bass looks awesome by the way. Don't need a 7 string at this point in time though

Yes, if you have the money, you can get anything made.


But in short, yes. You just have to talk to some people about it. Chris Stambaugh would probably go for it.
