Fodera AJ owners/experts: A pickup location question

I've seen images of his AJ, but I don't think he'll be responding to this particular thread. Maybe, but I doubt it.

I don't think it is the P position, it's further back. If you look at Anthony's bass, the pickup is almost exactly the same distance from the end of the fretboard as the neck pickup on standard foderas, but seeing as the bass has a 36" scale and 28 frets, I'd say it's closer to the StingRay placement than the P bass. Look at these photos and check it out. I don't know the exact measurements, but it's definitely more 'Ray than P

Compare with the old two pickup model. Look at how far the neck pickup is from the bridge on this one (sorry, it's an ebay ad).

Brad's AJ is an older double-cutaway model with two pickups.

The Lincoln Goines model has the pickup further back than a Ray; that's more like 60s' jazz spacing. Just look at the different two pickup models on the Fodera site and compare them with the AJ and the Goines.

I am in agreement with you on this. I mean no disrespect to anyone, but the pup does look like it's a bit farther back than Fender P position (taking into account the 36" scale, of course). Perhaps it lines up with the rearmost coil of a P, but that's the only way I can see calling it a P position.

A call to Fodera or a PM to Mr. Jackson himself here on TB would end the speculation.

OK folks, I just can't tolerate any more "authoritative" comments on the Presentation when so many are simply wrong. I know this adds to my reputation for being stuffy, uptight, too serious, etc. Sorry, but I guess now I'll have to ruin everyone's day again...
Seriously...I never measured the pickup location. I placed it simply where I felt it sounded best, and it was my decision alone...Vinnie and Joey were not consulted. I never measured the Precision bass pickup location, and moving the Presentation unit even a quarter inch forward or backward ruined the sound. I've just taken a tape measure to number 10, and the forward edge of the nut to the pole pieces is 32 inches (plus or minus a fraction). If, adjusting for scale length, the location matches the P bass, then consider the old man's original calculations further verified. I think he would smile.

Thanks Anthony for putting all us "know it alls" firmly in our place

No day ruined here and FWIW it would piss me off a bit if people kept getting things wrong about something I'd had a large hand in creating.

At least now I'll know the correct response next time the question comes up.

My thanks also Mr. Jackson. I now feel justified with all the stock bass guitars I've hacked up or otherwise ruined their resale value by noodling with the manufacturer's original pickup placement. It has cost me some money, but it helped me better understand why certain instruments sound the way they do beyond the tonewoods and construction methods.
