The ´91 AJ has a walnut body with a figured koa top, 36" maple neck with macassar ebony fingerboard. When I bought it used in 1999 I took it to Christian Celinder in Chopenhagen. He did a nice set-up. Since that day I have tweaked the truss-rod once. A testament to quality and oiling the fingerboard twice a year.

The barts and Haz-lab are out and the bass now sports Aero pickups and a custom 2-band Pope pre. The two switches are both On/On. The 4 combinations the two switches give me are off/inner single coils/outer single coils/both pickups parallel hum-bucking.

Bottom line: I love her to death. IMO the best thing about the bass is that it is stunning yet simplistic.

I just got this wonderful Imperial Elite 6 - purchased at Fodera in May '05 by a fellow TBer, it is still in MINT condition ! Would be nice to get a number...

I never felt comfortable with the big Foderas, but even if this huge and heavy bass is a challenge to handle, it plays relatively easy and sounds superb.

Specs:
Master Grade Walnut Burl Top
Matching Headstock
Walnut Body
35' Maple neck with Bubinga stringers
Pope Pre with 3-pos. coil tap (inner/both/outer)
Aero Soapbars with matching wooden covers
Kingwood Board w/ Christian Fish Inlay
20mm (!) spacing at the bridge
Weight 5.75 kg (~12 lbs, urghs)

I decided a few years ago not to play 6ers anymore, but I couldn't withstand this....:hyper:

You are a lucky man, that's one of my all time favourite Foderas - I just love that top!

Hasadari has a nice Imperial in the ads, unless he sold it. I took a long, hard look at it.

I have to ask because I noticed it in narud's pic. Why is it that I often see pics of Fodera headstocks with the truss rod cover removed? My own experience with Fodera's tells me their necks are fairly unstable and tend to move alot. I've never experienced any warping with a Fodera or anything, but every Fodera I've owned the neck moved a lot so I was constantly adjusting them. I probably should have left my cover off for easy access for as often as I had to remove it, but I probably would have just lost it.

Interesting observation....my Imperial was finished in 2006 and I've had to adjust the truss rod once. And thats from New York to Hawaii...ash neck perhpahs?...but mine is solid.

Could be the ash neck. I've no experience with ash as a neck wood. I think the instability of the necks on my Fodera's was the main cause of the rather weak B strings all of them but one had. Mine just weren't rigid enough. Yet, I still want another one.

check the peavey i have for sale. no truss rod cover either.:D i just dont like them. if fenders had them, id take them off too.

I spotted that often as well on those artist's basses with no truss rod cover which make me feel in same way...

Folks, there is a 5-string Imperial with an almost identical look -- Walnut Burl Top, matching headstock, Dual Coils and a similar looking East Indian Rosewood fingerboard available for IMMEDIATE delivery and BRAND NEW from the shop right now -- due to the economy, the guy that had it built can't complete the purchase. I was just at the shop yesterday -- that bass is killer and I think they are willing to be pretty aggressive on price!! Too bad I don't play 5-strings!!!

I think many folks can't really complete the purchase at the recent economy circumstance... Any pic of the instrument?

This is a serious misconception. I own many Foderas and they have VERY stable necks. Remember, that cats like Matt Garrison, Anthony Jackson,Victor Wooten, Richard Bona, etc., might be gigging in NYC where it is 50 degrees and dry and then a day later be gigging in Brazil where it is 90 degrees and humid and then the following day be off to Europe...no wooden neck will not move when subjected to those kinds of changes. So, these guys are constantly making small adjustments to the truss rod to keep their Foderas in perfect playing shape (less than a 1/2 turn usually). It's not the necks that are unstable, it's their gig schedule! ;)

BTW, have you ever played Matt's bass? He has the lowest action of any bass I have ever touched -- it makes electric guitar action look high...no joke!
