Fodera Club Part III

Does fodera do dovetail joints?
interesting.
I just saw the new price list and all I thought was "good luck to them".
but the reason for this post is another one;
Does anyone here know any details on their cables elara and calista?(hope I got those names right...)? :)

yes I know that. I have two neck trough Foderas. But it has always been that the Singlecuts were always obviously more expensive than the Monarch and the Emperor... of course you could go high with an Emperor elite 6 with all extra features from the list but I'm talking about the ground price. When I have ordered my ones it had been this situation that an Emperor elite was under the Imperial.

I don't want to blame anyone but I don't understand that new politic.

These are both really solid cables. Very high performance, no BS designs. The Calista in particular is a super low capacitance design that our performs cables many times it's price. You should start seeing Fodera cables popping up again in the near future if things go as predicted.

I got quite a few "good" leads and must say that I'd love to see how thise compare to the once that are my current favorites.

It's funny that cables came up. I just started using a Calista that I found in my cable box last weekend. I'm not the kind of guy who notices major differences when going from one good cable to another but the Calista does seem to have a little more highend presence than my Monster cables do. It also seems very well made without being awkward. I have some uber highend cables that are like ropes -- pretty bulky stuff.

Based on watching the production of the instruments closely for quite some time now, it became apparent that it was not the single cut thing that was causing the extra labor time (and therefore added expense), but rather the neck construction method with bolt-on being easier than dovetail which was easier than neck-through, so we realigned our prices accordingly.

Again and as always, remember that these are list prices....

I own one, it's simply the easiest bass to play.
the tone is to die for, and it allows me to do some technical stuff that I can't do on other basses, technically I can do the things on other basses, but the response the monarch gives allows to create the effect I want the listener to understand.

congrats on your new babe, she's a keeper believe me!

If you are talking about the 'Monster Bass Cable', that is the only cable I've ever used that actually sounds different from other cables. I think they built in some sort of super high capacitance or something that cuts the treble response on that cable, making it sound like it is a bit bassier (hence the name 'Monster Bass'... awful cable). Any other cable I've ever compared to that particular cable (including any other Monster cable) sounds like it has a bit more top end.

Just FYI.... I could never hear any other differences across other cables, but if you use the Monster Bass as a comparison, virtually any other cable will sound more full range, and IMO better.

+1 I have a few Monster Bass cables that I bought years ago thinking I was buying something great. As it turns out the design of those cables works very well with a piezo pickup on a double bass. I stoppeed using them years ago with my electrics.

I have the same bass VW Classic also signed by Vic. I purchased mine around 2002. At that time I believe there were only a few that were signed by Vic. Mine is a player and I have 1000's of hours on it. The only problem that I've had (if look at the photo) the gold hardware does not hold up. The bridge and tuners get all pitted up and corroded. I will eventually have mine reconditioned. Enjoy your new bass.

I do hear differences between decent cables and gave away the monster cables I had.
They were just not good.

FYI, the higher the impedance of the source, the more you'll likely "hear" the cable. The new Fodera preamp has a dedicated, relatively low impedance cable driver at it's output, so if you're running active it would effortlessly swamp out most or all of the parasitic losses from most cables. Passive is a different story, though.
