Fodera Club Part IX

I'm guessing it has to be an Emperor 5. Joey and Vinnie have been talking about doing one for years. It would be great if it were a 34" but I'd imagine it's a 35" since that seems to be most popular lately.

I'm so over dual coils but from a marketing standpoint it does make sense. People still seem to dig them. I admit they look cool but I'm a much bigger fan of single coils these days.

For me, I prefer 35", but I don't care if it is 34" either. It all depends on the instrument IMO.

I agree with the dual vs single comment. I love the sound of angry single coils, but I much prefer the look of duals.

So, being a "standard" model. What will differentiate it from the custom shop models? No tilt back headstock and string tree? Still have the Fodera bridge? Pope 3 band or Pope 2 band? All these questions that will have to wait to be answered on the 22nd... That's like 8 days away or something...

8 days of agony

I am pretty sure they are not off the shelf and are made for Fodera.. They were special order and an expensive upgrade. Same as those that Janek has in his bass. At some point Jason will jump in and set it all straight.

After looking at Janek's new bass (the older one seems to have narrow aperture pickups) I'd agree with you and say this is probably the case if you had to pay an upgrade for them. Even so, I'd imagine that at least the casings and magnets are from the standard Seymour Duncan NYC Phase II, they just look so similar. The winding is probably the custom part of it. Are yours Alnico 2 or 5? The Duncans are Alnico 2.

I DID IT, I DID IT, I DID IT!!!!

I just bought my first Fodera, a Yin Yang Deluxe!!! This was the bass I'd been writing about, and agonizing over for so long now, and today I DID IT!!!!! Bass Central and Fodera tell me it should be only a few weeks. As I understand it, this is last YY Deluxe available anywhere from a dealer, and that from now on, they all must be ordered from Fodera directly. I can't say how excited I am... Bass Central treated me EXTREMELY well, and I'm looking forward to a very long relationship with Fodera.

WAHOO! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Oh, by the way, thanks to Jason for answering all my questions via e-mail...that surely helped in my decision making. Bass Central told me that there were two others considering that same bass. Sorry, guys :p

One more thing for Jason...will my bass end up on the newborn page?

Congrats. You'll dig it and I'm sure it'll end up on the newborn page. Then we all can get the envy thing going :p

Then you can but a YYS as a backup :D

Awesome! Congratulations on the Yin Yang Deluxe!

I had one on order a few years ago with Bass Central but got cold feet. I regret backing out, but now I have my YYS to pacify me.

They are definitely NOT off the shelf. They are Duncan custom shop pups made to our specs. This particular set are extra narrow and were made for us in EMG-style shells.

J

whats up with the dual coil pickups? they look like the wider aperture off the shelf duncan duals that they sell in the emg shells.

LOL, actually in this case you are, in fact, incorrect. The Baseline pups are mass produced. Ours are all made in the Duncan custom shop and are wound to our specific requirements. The released the NYC Phase II without our blessing and frankly, it frustrated us to no end. They ARE decent pickups, but please make no mistake...they are definitely not the same thing that goes into our instruments.

J

I think they are those same off the shelf pickups. I can understand it though. Seymour Duncan makes the regular more narrow dual coils just for Fodera, and markets the NYC Phase II as a similar aftermarket pickup (with Fodera's blessing I presume). Rather than make entirely new pickups for a handful of custom 16-17.5mm Foderas, they just don't print 'Basslines' on their regular NYC phase IIs which go out to Fodera. Nothing wrong with that. They're still essentially Fodera pickups and they sound great.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

Congratulations!! It's still a couple of weeks away, but coming together nicely and you are correct, this is the last available YY Deluxe from a Dealer. It was ordered about two years ago. Beginning in 2010, all newly ordered YYD's were direct-only.

The basses generally make it to the Newborn Page the day after they are finished...

Cheers!

Don't beat yourself up! The way things used to run at the shop I am surprised more people didn't get cold feet...plunking down thousands of dollars and having zero idea when your bass would be delivered was a pretty scary proposition. It was certainly a big disincentive for me...

i wasnt speculating that they were off the shelf but using the same aperture as the off the shelf set. of course my eyes could be deceiving me, but in the picture, the coils look further apart than the other duncan/aero duals.

It will not be a YYS5...

Well thanks for that info, here is what I think, since Janek and Anthony gonna be there, and somebody needs to present that second standard series, and we know that Anthony and Janek play singlecut, it has to be single cut :)

Since Janek is on 33" and Anthony on 36" it has to be somewhere in the middle... :) hehe

Another 7 days of brain storming.... :)

HAHAHA

Can't wait to see it

If it winds up being a single cut that its going to be painfully tempting... But with the Standards tending to be bolt ons, I'd have my doubts.

I'd also be seriously tempted if it was an emperor 5 with an angled headstock, and a headstock accessed truss rod... Essentially that would be the bass i'd order if I was to wait another 4 years and get a custom bass done... Well, personally I'd order a 6 string set neck. But it would be very close. The last Fodera I played was an Emperor 5 with Jazz pickups, and I was smitten with it. BEAUTIFUL bass.

Can't wait for the news... Wish my band account had a bit more padding, but maybe a $1000.00 down payment wouldn't hurt so bad.
