Yesterday my Mom had surgery for breast cancer, so my head has been a bit out of the bass game for a couple of days. I was not in the shop to play Angus' bass after it was set up, but when I spoke with Joey yesterday and asked him about it he said the bass was "amazing." He was not sure that given the wood combination he would like it, but he said it actually blew him away and that the Lane Poors sounded really good. I will ask Vin about the bridge, but I am 100% certain he had a very good reason for its placement!

So, in terms of Angus' bass, a couple of competing factors all needed to be taken into account...

1. The Hipshot super-narrow spaced bridge is a full 1/2" shorter than our standard Fodera bridge which exaggerates the way the bridge placement looks.

2. Given that the neck was made of Wenge, which tends to be very heavy, Vinny wanted to leave as much body wood bellow the bridge as possible to minimize neck dive.

3. There was some discussion about there not being a larger cutaway, in fact, the lower cutaway goes a full three frets further than we typically go on a Monarch. Normally we place the lower cutaway at around the 24th fret, on Angus' it's at the 27th. Vinny did not want to go further than that...

Hope that this all makes sense. BTW, thanks for the well wishes. We are hopefully that my Mom will make a complete recovery. Next up is helping to get her through Chemo...

More importantly, I hope your mother's recovery and continued care go well- that's more important than any of this. She's lucky that she has such a great support group in your family! :)

They could have set the neck deeper into the body, placing the bridge closer to normal position and then deepend the cutaway. Either way, I'm sure that is a killer bass. Congrats!

Yeah, that was the way it was ordered, actually- like Joe Sanchez's 5 string Monarch.
