Generally I'd say the Yin Yang Standards look better than the original series...but that right there is the most beautiful bass by Fodera I've ever seen!

I am sure Jason and some of the others can give you a proper answer but, I doubt the little bit of wood would block the magnetic field.. so either way should work fine..
That being said... I personally went with exposed poles and plastic covers. I like the look (I guess because I grew up with pickups looking like that) and even though it defies logic, I didn't want anything between the poles and the strings. LOL

Aesthetics, and possibly may prevent oxidization of the pole pieces from exposure to sweat/fingers touching them. I can't imagine the tone being noticeably different.

We feel that if:

a. You don't sweat a lot;
b. Are comfortable with seeing the pole pieces;
c. Don't play in a way (i.e. really digging in) that you will hit the pole pieces;

then, exposed poles are preferable as there is a slight sonic benefit to having the poles ever-so-slightly closer to the strings and without being covered by wood.

That said, the difference is subtle and any of the items above (a-c) trumps the benefit...

Are the fingerboards on foderas "dressed" with a bit of tension on the neck or without, and where do you see benefits of one approach as opposed to the other?
I have read different builders using different approaches( one of the two) ,giving different reasons for doing so and I am wondering what Foderas' thoughts are on this.

not sure if it is me you are "talking to" but if it is: I mean the board before and at the time the frets go in,as it is being "shaped and sanded" and whilst the frets are dressed.

I think that Victors sound on the "Palmystery" record is his best so far, so I guess this bass sounds just awesome. To me, the first Yin Yang has slightly too much treble accentuation, it just ripps everything away (that´s why I didn´t keep mine).
