...and I really hope that howard levy is not only going to do this one record and tour with the flecktones since he's the main reason I got interested in them in the first place!

The addition of Jeff Coffin to the Flecktones pretty much ruined my interest in the band. Adding a sax to their music made it too normal to me. The flecktones for me will always be Fleck, Wooten/Wooten, and Levy.

I hear a lot of people saying they prefer Howard Levy over Jeff Coffin. Personally, I prefer Jeff Coffin cuz he's the sickest tenor player I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong, Howard is an amazing player, but I feel way more energy coming from Jeff.

hmm, probably not the right place for this, but . . . better than coltrane, wayne shorter or michael brecker (to name three of a huge amount of amazing tenor players)? i haven't really listened to jeff's thing, but i would find that hard to believe.

I haven't really listened to a lot of older flecktones stuff. Plus I really like what I've heard of Jeff with other artists (Jerry Douglas' tune "Cave Bop" for example) Either way I'm looking forward to the new CD/Tour!

Jeff coffin did a week long clinic at my college a few years back. The first clinic we had with him he started off by playing solo for about 12 minutes and he just blew us away. Towards the end he started doing his two horn thing,... It was just sick.

i'm probably gonna get this wrong, but as i recall a friend of mine who's an amazing chromatic harmonica player says that levy does stuff on a diatonic harp that's basically impossible (i.e., playing chromatically).

The Flecktones have been around for a long time now in several formats and I've enjoyed and been inspired by all of them.

Howard and Jeff (along with all the other great collaborators) have been equally individual and inspiring in their own right and have helped Bela and the Flecktones as a whole stay fresh and interesting over the years.

I look forward to hearing new music from the Flecktones whoever is on board!

It was very interesting to see Vic playing an NYC... and an acoustic upright, and his Compito fretless 5.

This clip did a WONDERFUL job of getting me juiced up for the new album. I've always loved the Flecktones, but you could hear in this clip that their music on this album definitely moves the band forward, not back to the past.

BTW #1: Love Jeff. I definitely think he is seriously underrated, and that is saying something considering how well rated he is in some circles.

BTW #2: Speaking of NYCs, (and bringing the conversation back to Fodera), here is a photo of my favorite NYC I've seen so far, a bass that I thought very hard about getting when it popped up in the TB classifieds (I decided to hold out and keep looking for the right Emperor). Is it just me, or is this NYC a LOOKER!

But I'm glad I held out and kept looking until I found Poseidon, my Emperor 5:

I kind of agree.
From what I have heard, levy is an incredible player-musically and technically where as jeff coffin is an alright player when looking at the wider picture.
I'm sure he is very good!
-But there's just soo many fantastic saxophonist out there.
When I first heard jeff coffin with the flecktones, I liked his playing but still thought " how in the world did this happen???".

Now I just imagine Trilok Gurtu with the Flecktones.
I think that would be quite fun!
