Hey PDavyduck, I'm at L&M in St. John's... nice to meet a fellow canuck on these threads! I was just down to NYC to visit the shop and got a quote for a Monarch Deluxe, and I'm hoping to make a deposit by the end of next month. Cool to hear you're saving up for one too. What model are you thinking of getting?

Very cool!! At this point I'm not sure, but the Emperor II 5 is swaying me for sure in that direction.

I know now that I definitely want a 34" scale with a non-maple board for sure.... but it'll be a while before I get the money sorted so I'll have time to narrow it down ;)

I've had the pleasure to play this bass several times, and if I played a six this might never have been on the net. Its a great sounding instrument and someone should call Dave and go for it.

Also, in person it looks even better than in the pic.

BIG props to Jason !

I'm close to finish the final quote for my new Imperial (only the top wood has to be chosen) and I should recive my production start date the next days and Jason is nothing but a pleasure to deal with !!!

:)

this is my first time dealing with them directly and it was the right decision !

Thanks so much Leonard III. There is nothing that we enjoy more than working with you all to get the tone that is in your heads and turn it into something you can play, hear and feel everyday...it really is a gift...

The feel of the our necks is really a combination of their shape (hand-carved, of course) and our finish process -- which is pretty painstaking. We use multiple coats of gloss acrylic lacquer that are hand sanded after every three coats. the final coat it hand sanded three times using increasingly fine grit material and then a paste wax is applied....

I have to say I have never felt a neck like my Fodera either. It feels like a totally different and better neck than my other basses. Granted, nothing I have costs over 2grand except the Fodera, but they are good.

Three things about Fodera just jump out when I play them. The first is the slick neck. It seems so smooth and skinny. But it is not skinny (I have a Monarch 4 string). The second is there are simply no dead spots. I can always seem to find a place in a bass that is dull, but not my Monarch. The third is the incredible tone and sustain.

I emailed a famous person (lol, if he reads this he will get it ;) and told him just playing an open string on this bass makes me feel creative... and I am not kidding. I am used to things fading much more quickly.

I am not a fanboi of anything. But if something works, it works. I write this because I am happy happy with mine and also to encourage anyone who is wanting one to know in my humble opinion they are superior basses.

Cheers!
Ron

Has anyone seen the new AJ fretless in the newborn section at Fodera? Nasty. In a nice way.

Yeah pretty cool indeed. However I'm a little confused on the 2 pickups and preamp on this one. I didn't think Fodera was doing this anymore on AJ's since Mr. Jackson has certain objections. Just curious.

If it has knobs, it's not an AJ.

i was trying to not bring this up, cause i figured it was controversial.

however, i think you're not quite right on this:

it's not a *aj presentation* (even though the body style looks like one) . . . the *aj* is a different (and somewhat older, 1985–now?) body style, see joe vegas' bass pic from a few days ago . . .

I have a feeling this one was ordered before Anthony Jackson's proclamation that an "AJ Presentation" wasn't an "AJ Presentation" if it strayed from his specs in any way.

Hmmm..possibly, but I think unlikely.

It could be just an HTML cut & paste error, easily done.

This is a combination of things....

1. It was ordered over 5 years ago (one of the batch of old Groove Shoppe Orders that never officially made it onto the Production Schedule until we discovered the issue around 20 months ago), so it was ordered as an "AJ Presentation."

2. I have not corrected the Newborn Page yet (will be working on that later this morning). The person that posts the images simply takes the specs from the Production Sheets...I then review each one and do the small write up and I have not done this yet...at which time it will be changed to "AJ Pesentation Shape," but it definitely is NOT a Presentation.

Cheers,

J

Jason, thanks so much for putting us straight.
