Fodera Club Part X

For us, designing this instrument in conjunction with a really wonderful friend (and prominent Fodera Artist) was all about tone and playability...looks were really secondary. That said, I think what we came up with looks pretty darn stunning, but again, we asked the question, "If we wanted to get this kind of tone and playability, what possible ingredients and build techniques could we use?"

Once we ran through all of the options and built and played some prototypes we settled on a final mix of ingredients that will be the build specs for the new Standard model we are announcing at NAMM. Only at that point did we next say, "okay these are more complicated than the other Standards so we will only build them in 15 piece batches (rather than 30). Based on these things, we can price them at $X."

So, the FB material (and the rest of the materials for that matter) exist to serve the tone and with the mix that we went with for this build, Ebony (or dark rosewood) was not the right material...

LOL...the top on the mystery bass that Matt is playing is not Maple, it is Box Elder Burl. Beautiful material...

Considering the Garrison shape is so popular, and there are already a bunch of pictures of Matt with a new bass (maple top and what looks like a pau ferro board)....I'm going to go with that. Sounds like a sound decision to me. They'll all be sold within the first minute or two.

Guys, I spent some time on the phone the other day with Jason, and he let the cat out of the bag on what the new standard is going to be. I was sworn to secrecy, but I just can't keep it a secret anymore.

It won't be a Bona, or Garrison, or any of those things. It's a bass for the masses. An everyman's bass. I'm proud to announce the Donovan Bankhead signature model Fodera:
