Hello fodera people,
This is a serious inquiry as I am thinking of pulling the trigger at some point in the near future.
Do any of you have a ES5? Any opinions?? toughts?? experience??

For any of you who have not yet had the pleasure of dealing with Fodera either on the phone, or via e-mail, the video that is included as a link in Mr.Typhus' post 2 below (or above, whichever way you display this forum) is a truly excellent way to meet Jason (and Vinnie and Joey and Matt Garrison). They come across exactly like Jason does when you deal with him directly. I know I sound like a shill for Fodera, but my experience with them has just been so beyond stellar that I would tell anyone who is even THINKING about a Fodera, to call and talk to Jason about your ideas, dreams, your ideal instrument, and let him explore the possibility of what your next bass could be. I loved the video!
Oh, and don't let me leave out Holly and Laura, with respect to Fodera people, who have been the sweetest ladies, ever! THIS is what makes Fodera a cut above, their instruments notwithstanding. Thanks, Mr.Typhus for providing the link

First off, first post on the new thread. Yay!
Since I am still at NAMM, getting less than 5 hours of sleep and working the rest of the time, my answers will necessarily be brief and I will try to consolidate all of the ones from the end of the last thread and the first two pages of this into this one post. Here it goes...
1. The Emperor 5 Standard. We have not shipped any other than the first two prototypes yet. One is at the show with us, went to Bass Player Live with us this past October and will be reviewed in the next issue of Bass Player Magazine. The other has been played by Tom Kennedy since October. We gave it to him to ask him to put it through its paces prior to starting the full production run and not only did he love it, but he has not given it back and it has become his main bass (yes, he is using this instead of his Custom!). Please also note that Tom has ZERO financial interest in playing the E5S...he just loves it and it has become his main gigging bass.
Incidentally, I did have the chance to proof the Bass Player Mag article about the YYS and E5S. They loved both...look for the review in the next issue!
2. The CPO Imperial 5 Macassar is a flat out stunning instrument. It is on the heavy side (I would guess around 10.5 - 11 pounds), but there is no way around that with MacEb and it is one of teh reasons that this bass sounds so good. It is dead mint as every surface was taken down to bare wood, the fingerboard releveled and refrettted, the neck reshaped (to our more modern shape) and then the entire instrument completely refinished. So it is that rare bird -- a bass that has 10 years of vibrating as an instrument and is also dead mint cosmetically. If I sound enthusiastic about it, I am as it has the finest B-string of any bass at the show (IMHO) and the competition for that honor is fierce as all of the B's on the Show basses are really fine. Frankly, I am stunned that it is still available.
3. Finally, the continued praise of what we are doing here at Fodera is heartwarming and I must continue to impress that while I often end up being the public face of our team, I am merely one cog in what is slowly but surely becoming a well oiled machine...

I played one of the prototypes at BPL back in Oct. I was floored by the instrument. The only reason I didn't order one is because I am not crazy about 19mm spacing on a 5-string and I also am not an offset body kinda guy.
Instead I bought a Yin Yang Deluxe, Monarch Deluxe 4, and ordered a MGS
But for someone who wants a killer "traditional" 5-string strung B-G, the ES5 is easily a top choice. I've played/owned most all the other boutiques and I'm now playing Fodera. But at a certain level of build quality you're talking about different flavors of awesome and it comes down minor details and personal preferences.

If something is worth doing, it is worth over-doing. Actually I forgot to mention the deposit on another Monarch
I'm selling a few other things to help offset the outlay.

The Fodera booth is a wonder. Every bass is literally top of the line. Nice folks, and Pope and Garrison plying their tails off adds to the wonder.
I can honestly say it is the most impressive group of instruments I have seen in one place at one time.

The YYS has nestled in nicely with the rest of the guitars. Missing in action in is my 1995 Mexican Fender Precision.
