the good thing about the stubby is that there's an indent where your thumb and finger meet the pick, so it feels like a thinner pick there, but plays like a heavier pick where it hits the string. gives a meatier sound.

you might want the try the c kaye pick, it's somewhere in between fender heavy and the stubby.

I don't think the preamp was the FM stuff. If was a 1-space 19" wide silver front box with two knobs (red?). Kinda looked like a Summit TD-100 that was stretched to full rack width. It was sitting on top of one of the Meyer cabs.

It might not have even been a preamp as there was a DI box. I'm sure the answer is out there...and it is beyond my wallet and talent range :D. His bass sounded like the hand of god though...

Hey Jason! I'm looking to get a six string monarch just like tony Grey's old one, is it going to be crazy expensive? I'm not sure how much this wood combinations cost and what is the effect of these woods together.

Indian Rosewood-Top, Ebony-Fingerboard, Maple Heel Block, Walnut-Body, 5 Piece Maple with Purple Heart-Neck.

You would build your "price" for this bass by starting with the following:

-Monarch Elite 6
-Indian Rosewood Top (it is an upcharge top by I cannot / do not quote prices here...)
-Solid Top on Elite
-5-Piece Maple Neck
-6-string Dual Coil PUPS in wooden covers

Adding all of those costs together would give you your List Price.

Not sure what is your crazy expensive price range.

A Monarch 6 string starts at $9,975, after options added, it can be up to $1,2000..

Although for 99% of our builds' delivery times have become downright predictable, wrp's bass has taken MUCH, MUCH longer to be brought to life than any other recent instrument. It WILL be finished in time for his visit on May 3rd at which time AJ himself will be at the shop to check it out.

That is one of the reasons that #12's specs have not been nailed down yet. The instrument that we are making for wrp uses some new build concepts that AJ and Vinny have long been talking about. These completely new concepts are also what's causing the instrument to take so darn long to make.

That said, some of the concepts are...

1. Much more of a hollow design than we have ever done before. The bridge and pups will actually be resting on "floating" support beams (under the top) rather than solid body material.

2. This instrument will be four inches thick but due to its "hollowness" should not weight any more than a Presentation.

3. Like Matt Garrison's Semi-Hollow, wrp's instrument will have Vinny's (now patented!) heel-less design.

4. 36" scale (of course).

Hope that whets the appetite and wrp you are a true gentleman and have been far more patient than I would have been, but we ARE in the home stretch as Vinny has finally broken the intellectual log jam that was holding him back for quite some time. Thanks again and we cannot wait to see you in May!!!

This process has been an opportunity to work with true artisans to realize the perfect instrument for me. I consider this bass to be a "commissioned" rather than "custom" instrument. There are quite a few new concepts incorporated into this one and I didn't want to constrain the creative process with an arbitrary delivery date. It has been a long time coming, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the process and the interactions with everyone at Fodera. I'm very grateful that our interactions will also include AJ's input when I visit the shop in May!

Jason - I haven't forgotten about a certain Cabernet you and I discussed a while ago. We will definitely be celebrating this Newborn in May!

First off, thank so much for considering us! The neck on the YYS is our "standard" carve and tends to be a fairly "thin / fast" profile. They end up weighing right around 9 pounds and balance exceptionally well on the strap. Several regular posters in this thread own or have owned them and can probably give you some more feedback. But unless requested by a customer when we are building a custom instrument, we tend to be very far away from the fat neck, chunky body vibe.

You can always call us at the shop to chat in real time...

I have a YYS but not the other two, so I can't make a direct comparison. The body is more compact than a standard P, and the sides and cutout have an amazing curve that has to be worn and played to be understood. The neck is thin in profile and incredibly easy and comfortable to play. It just... fits.

The YYS was my "gateway drug" to Fodera. I wanted to hate it as it was more expensive than my previous instruments. Then I played it. Then I bought it. Then I bought a couple more Foderas :D

Between Ibby and Warwick, more Ibby but it still is like comparing apples and rutabagas. The YYS has a fast neck, body is perfect size shape to me (highly personal), and the PJ setup with Pope 3-band preamp is ideal. Blows Ibanez electronics out of the water - Warwick as well imho, but again, personal choice.

Perhaps the biggest plus is getting to be a part of the Fodera "family", as the guys and gals at the shop are awesome, and really care about the instruments they make and the people who play them.
