Both sets in Oakland were great, but the second set was incredible. Got to meet Simon, who mentioned the band was going into the studio after the tour to record the next album. Also spent some time with Anthony and got some insights into his design goals for Presentation #12. His Meyers sound rig sounded absolutely amazing!

I believe it was a pair of powered Meyersound cabinets, and on top there was a single rack unit preamp (?). I couldn't tell what brand. He had a DI on the floor, volume pedal, and some other mystery pedal (at least a mystery to me).

Very full-range and open sound. Kind of a polar opposite to a DB751. There was some FOH but not much and I think it was mostly for piano (and perhaps some kick). SP can play quiet, but when he gets going he isn't...quiet :D

The mystery pedal is a Jam Pedal Waterfall chorus (http://www.jampedals.com/waterfall/)

Anthony mentioned the name of the preamp, but I don't recall what it was. He did comment that it was all solid state, ran hot, and that it was significantly better than the Millenia.

Ahh, that makes sense. I thought I heard a chorus on some of the tunes. I thought the preamp was a Summit Audio but nothing matches the shape/knobs.

I never considered a 6-string until seeing him Wed night. And I pulled out some of my picks and gave that a whirl last night (great for damped attack). Always good to see a master at work for giving some inspiration and new approaches.

Better than the Millennia STT1? I shouldn't be surprised, after all AJ's a true audiophile.

Wonder what is that preamp , true AJ did allot for the development of the bass .

& it also true that he digs into hifi stuff for himself as I read years ago in an old BassPlayer mag that I can t find anymore , with moves ..lol

Sounded like it was still very fluid. Perhaps Jason can shed more light.

FYI, I'm the guy (fool?) who commissioned a semi-acoustic Hybrid Presentation 6. AJ is considering some of the concepts that are incorporated in this bass. I'm planning on taking delivery of my bass when I visit the shop at the beginning of May.

excellent, i can see it now . . . .

picks are cool. gotta get one that work for bass, imho. most are tacky-sounding guitar picks. you need a little more heft to move the bigger strings, imo.

I was really picky (ha, I made a funny) about picks when I played guitar. 0.83mm Dunlop nylon. I tried that and it is ok, but I think you're right that something thicker/stiffer would be a better choice.

Yeah, there's another joke there...
