Jason, I have to say that you have been a wonderful addition to the Fodera crew. I've been following most of the threads.

Could you give a brief run down of the differences between the Fodera dual coils and the Duncan dual coils?

What I mean is a neck with a skunk stripe8 I guess that's how one might do it?) and no glued on board.

Used to be, but not anymore...it's just not available to us. We cannot get assurances based on what has gone on in Madagascar that the wood that is available to us was harvested legally / sustainably and so as much as we love the material, we won't but it anymore...

In terms of the dual coils that we currently offer...there are actually three sets.

1. Fodera 60's. These are wound for us by a very small maker of pickups that Joey and Vinny have known for many years. They are modeled tonally after 60's Fender pups. These tend to be a touch darker tonally than #2. These are what go in the Emperor 5 Standards and some custom instruments as well.

2. Fodera / Duncan. These are made for us by the Seymour Duncan custom shop based on a design that was jointly developed by Seymour Duncan and Joey over many years of trial and error. The specs on these have pretty much been set for the past 6 years or so, with earlier versions aving been tweaked from time to time. This is our go-to "all around" dual coil pickup and the one used on 90% of the custom instruments.

3. Fodera 70's. Made by the same guy as in #1 but wound like 70's Fender PUPS (that is to say, slightly "underwound"). These are the brightest sounding of the three sets.

Although it's costly to stock three different very similar pickups, it gives a lot of flexibility in terms of tweaking the final tone of an instrument...

I played a bass that had a neck like that and it seemed to work very well.
it had No stability issues either.

They are coming on board with us as a new Dealer so I imagine that these are listings for new instruments that were just ordered...if so there cannot be any pictures as they have not yet been built! LOL...

We are very excited to be working with them...

True! I'm glad I managed to catch Steely Dan (with Freddie Washington) at Massey Hall a few years ago. It was one of the best, and best-sounding shows, that I've seen in a long time!

Point well taken with so many variables to factor in. I too have been subjected to shows that suffered from inferior sound. However, concerts at Massey Hall in Toronto usually come off as well above average. 2765 seats at full capacity. Great dynamics. The sound crews setting up for shows love this venue.

Yes is a great band to see at MH. And to think, Genesis played their Foxtrot show there in 1973. Where was I?

i did play carnegie once and the acoustics are pretty great and it was really fun to play some bach by myself during soundcheck . . . but when they started putting drummers in the mix, it got pretty challenging.

Having a very good preamp onboard in every Fodera.
Can anybody recommend, a clean amp that just simply amplify the sound with no EQ and let the onboard preamp do the shaping?
I am a bedroom player who doesn't like to many electronic in the chain of sound.
Wonder if there is an amp with just one knob "Volume" only that I can pair it with my Aguilar SL112.
Like Anthony Jackson contra bass but the amp version of it.

Pretty much any power amplifier fits that description. Maybe something like a Crown Drivecore 1000.

I don't think it's ideal, but I've used my Monarch straight into the power amp of a couple of my tube heads. They still slammed without using the preamp, but they're 300 watts and have a lot of power.

I've never seen half that many at one time. Must be 6 or 7 on the first page sorted by 'highest first'

I like the older one with the olive wood top. If that was a 6 I'd be losing my mind lol

Actually, there is a lefty AJ 6 string that would be mine now if it was righty. That's the body shape for me right there It took a few years to grow on me, but I love that shape now.
