So yesterday I got to try out one of the Ying Yang Standards (hung out with Ian_s for a bit :)) and I've gotta say, that thing had to be among the best basses I've ever touched. Felt good, sounded incredible. Felt pretty much the same way about the only other Fodera I've played (a NYC Deluxe). I still doubt I'll ever actually be able to afford one but good job, not that you need me to tell you that :p.

Be careful, you should only play a yys if you're prepared to buy a custom, it's happened to a few of us. In the matter of 6 weeks I bought a yys, yyd, monarch deluxe, then ordered my custom and am selling all my stepping stones along the way just so I could find my perfect spec......and I found out its the same woods as the yys except for a fancy burl maple top.

Luckily (for my financial well being), I couldn't swing ANY Foderas unless I pooled cash from 3 separate accounts or sold off my other gear! I guess this is the part where I should be glad to be an jobless student, haha. That said, I would LOVE to see a 5 string Monarch Standard (PJ setup and all) at some point. By the way, whatever happened to the Monarch Standard series? Was it completely replaced by the YYSs?

Thought I'd do a little 'Foderas on the sofa shot' - set up in age order, '83, '86, '02. from left to right:

Just noticed that the single, bigger magnet dots at the high C string position.

Is that a custom pickup layout or all SD pickups for extended-range basses are like that?

All Hi-C string. dual coil with pole hole goes like this way.
