Emperor Std: I'd have to play it and hear for myself. Listening to the Youtube video bassclub chicago put up, I wasn't real impressed with the tone.

So what do you guys think about the Foders Standard 5? It looks great but has anyone played one?

I heard Tom Kennedy live with mike stern last month and he was playing his Emperor Std 5. It sounded amazing. I was completely blown away by his tone.

Almost every youtube video I've watched of fodera, except maybe janek's, I've said, ehh the tone's not that great. Then I played one....WOW, wayyyy different than some crappy quality youtube video. There is no way some crappy quality youtube video can translate the complex tone of any instrument, never mind a work of art like a fodera, they have to be played and heard in person to be understood. Now I've got the fodera bug and have two on the way.

I played the prototype at bpl last oct. Fodera through and through. I'm not a wide (19mm) spaced 5-string guy and I prefer the monarch shape to emperor. But otherwise, a no-brainier if you want a less expensive entry into Fodera. Incredibly comfortable neck and plenty of tones on tap.

Today's the day!

Every year right around now I pick up the bass, and all the strings are sharp and rattling the frets. First official day of Maryland summer.

Where's that truss rod wrench...

Maryland is so much better than Connecticut. Here in Potomac visiting family, and it's a wildly better place. Wow.

I have to adjust my Fodera like every two months in CT. Back in northern California, I set it up when it arrived and never had to mess with it again.

I blame the location.

I'm hyper sensitive to adjustments on my electrics, but I don't think I've adjusted my upright in 8 years. I'll be able to play it equally well in whatever state it's in (though it doesn't move much).

...Which probably says how bad I am.

So, other than Jason(because you are the luckiest man in the world of bass players), who here has owned a YY Deluxe and a YY Standard? Thoughts about the differences? Preference?

I know they are both Monarchs(I have owned 2 monarchs), I just want some more specific info of the differences between the Deluxe and Standard playability, tone, and any other thoughts.

Thanks, guys. Look forward to any input.
