The pickup covers and ramp for my bass were made this way. Wenge foundation with Pau Ferro top. If it works it works.

It's the block of wood that sits between the two pick-ups as seen on a Richard Bona or Matt Garrison model. It facilitates moving your thumb back and forth without the gap that would be there without the ramp. And it works really well.
Here are my two "vintage" basses: '99 emperor with no top/sunburst alder body and Brazilian board and my '11 emperor with northern ash body. They are spot on nailing the '60s and '70s sound and feel.
One thing I've noticed is that the alder used by fodera is heavier then the old fenders. I like this as the sound I get is more focused and less hollow.

Yeah this is first true custom built to my specs with Fodera. I'm real excited about it, every other bass has been a get it quick and somewhat a compromise on specs. Although I love my namm buckeye imperial with the ash neck and the mgs isn't bad either...

I saw the top, which is awesome, very unique. ANd it will make the transition to the thru neck look a lot better, that's the way to do it IMHO.
Good deal, 16.5 mm like Janek has is a good move, wished I would have considered that a little more. I actually moved the mgs bridge saddles in all the way to narrow it up. It just makes all the difference for chording.
Should be a cool and playable combo. I look forward to another Hou video with new bass.
