In the mood for a change, I put LaBella tapes on my YYS instead of the VW nickels, which I adore. Tonally they're thicker but the bass still has the top end. I'm still trying out the feel and letting them settle, but I'll see if I can't put some recordings up later this weekend.

cool....I've been thinking about throwing some TI flats on my Imperial 5 for a while now, maybe I should.
On a cool side note, I spent the afternoon at the Fodera shop yesterday. Finally met Jason, Joey, and Vinny, and saw the whole operation while my bass got worked on. Got my hands on both a MG standard and Emperor 5 standard and was really blown away with the 33" scale of the MG. HATED the feel of the C string instead of the low B but what a fantastic feeling bass. I expected the low end to be a lot less fat with the shorter scale and that was DEFINITELY not the case. Also got to watch an AJ Presentation being made (for AJ himself!) as it was being sanded by hand. Joey also showed me one of the anniversary Wooten Monarch copies and it looks INCREDIBLE....needless to say, there's some amazing stuff happening in Brooklyn....

i have ti flats on two foderas (mixed fretted/fretless) and have for years. great sound, imho.

yeah I've been a TI flats fan for years on my old Fenders but when I think of my Fodera or that Fodera sound I automatically think rounds....very curious now!
ok, now you've got me thinking. I'm wondering how a set of these would work on the MGS. Are people using the JF364 (.044 - .057 - .072 - .096) or JF344 (.043 - .056 - .070 - .100). I'd pick up the .033 single for the C-string. I typically run the Fodera nickel 28-100 MG set.
i use both rounds and ti flats. in fact, i have another fodera with some other flats on it as well.

i am actually loving my Markbass set up! I have the 112p combo for most gigs and the MoBass amp with the 2 channel set up (just like my walter woods) with the Markbass 410 cab for larger gigs.
The Walter woods was nice but to me I could never get it to really punch or break up when I hit it hard, seemed like a small dynamic range. The Markbass stuff really has a wider range for me.
Loving the Monarch!

Yes. Although amazingly, for the past 18 months or so his Custom has been here in the shop (not for repairs -- he just left it here). We made the very first Emperor 5 Standard for him to check out and "battle test." He has been on the road with that ever since!!

In terms of the AJ, it was a confusing day as we were building the neck of AJ's new hyrbid construction Presentation AND a traditional AJ Presentation at the same time. The traditional Preentation (that is exactly like AJ's current instrument) is going to Japan, but the neck that we were building is for AJ's new instrument.

I'm in a really fun new band situation where I'm doing a three piece with the MGS bass in a chordal / melodic role which has presented new challenges where there are times I need to separate things more tonally from the bass player. If your ever in that situation check out the POG2 poly octaver. Being a purist when it comes to effects, I like the concept of a polyphonic octaver, because the original tone of the MGS isn't complexly lost like with a synth. So I got just got my hands on the POG2 after trying and returning three other effects immediately a whole new world opened up. I was using a micropog for similar effect up until recently when I dove into the deep end with an Eventide PitchFactor. I can't get it to do the organ thing quite as well (I think that is the strength of the Pog), but it does some other crazy stuff with arpeggiators and other tricks that can make for some cool textures. For delay I use the Brigadier and love it. I had a Timeline but it was overkill for me. While I love analog chorus the new Mobius looks pretty cool as well.
